Hi Micah
installed codec? and perhaps have a look into these threads:

http://kmeleonbrowser.org/forum/read.php?f=1&i=15079&t=15079
http://kmeleonbrowser.org/forum/read.php?f=1&i=14542&t=14474

a rough & ready solution:
user_pref("browser.helperApps.neverAsk.openFile", "video/x-ms-wmv");
user_pref("kmeleon.general.CloseDownloadDialog", true);
user_pref("kmeleon.general.saveDir", "k:\\Temp\\");

video/x-ms-wmv must be altered to the file, mime type You want to look.
all three lines go into Your user.js. which is accesible e. g. via Edit/Peferences....
greetings from Hannover

I am sure this is a completely stupid question but what do you do with the rdf file after you download it???

save as mimeTypes.rdf to your KM profile directory, typically located here:

C:\Program Files\K-Meleon\Profiles\default\xxxxxxx.slt\

Let me see if I understand this. Instead of asking me it will download the file and then open it. I just have to wait for the file to download before it will open.

hopefully yes:

the mentioned rdf is the prescription (receipe, command, order) for k-m how to handle the mime types (mentioend in the rdf).

if not:
You will find an a single command adapeted to my system and commented as best as I could here at the bottom:

http://kmeleonbrowser.org/forum/read.php?f=1&i=14542&t=14474

even if my explanation is not very understandable
I found what the commands do by comparing.
If You need to adapt the rdf Micah located to Your system - compare with mine:
the example adapts one command to my system.
