Posted by: Romanito
Date: April 27, 2004 10:19AM

Privacy Plugin 0.0.3 is out.

Main functions can now be called via macros, accelerators, toolbars and menus. All syntaxes are explained in the readme file. Generic information on how to modify config files can be found on this page.

Download the plugin here.

I didn't have much time to test everything so beta-testers are welcome winking smiley

Hi Romanito,

thanks for your fast "update". Unfortunately I am not a big expert in computer matters. So I have this question:

In your readme text for the plugin 0.0.3 you wrote:

"Here are the syntaxes to add Privacy functions calls in the menus,
accelerators and toolbars."

I am sorry but to sea what this exactly means I have to copy
for exemple this:

%ifplugin privacy
&Privacy {
privacy(ClearCookies, Clear C&ookies)

in the menu.cfg. so that I get the following entry. Is it right ?

.........

%ifplugin privacy
&Privacy {
privacy(ClearCookies, Clear C&ookies)
privacy(ClearHistory, Clear &History)
privacy(ClearCache, Clear &Disk cache)
privacy(ClearMRU, Clear &Address bar history)
privacy(ClearSignon, Clear Saved &passwords)
-
privacy(Config, &Config)
privacy()
}
%endif

Main {
:&File
:&Edit
:&View
:&Go
%ifplugin bookmarks
:&Bookmarks
%endif
%ifplugin favorites
:F&avorites
%endif
%ifplugin hotlist
:Ho&tlist
%endif
# %ifplugin layers
# :&Layers
# %endif
%ifplugin winamp
:Winamp
%endif
%ifplugin weasel
:EMail
%endif
:&Help
bmpmenu()
%ifplugin privacy
:&Privacy
%endif

..............................

What about the following entries ? Where I have to put them exactly in the toolbar.cfg and the macro.cfg ?
Are these the complete expressions/entries ?

Toolbars & Accelerators
¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯
privacy(clearcookies)
privacy(clearhistory)
privacy(clearcache)
privacy(clearmru)
privacy(clearsignon)

Macros
¯¯¯¯¯¯
plugin(privacy, ClearCookies)
plugin(privacy, ClearHistory)
plugin(privacy, ClearCache)
plugin(privacy, ClearMRU)
plugin(privacy, ClearSignon)

Norbert,

Indeed, I forgot to mention it but these intructions are for users who already know how to customize menus/toolbars/etc by editing the config files.

For menu.cfg, I suggest you move this :

%ifplugin privacy
:&Privacy
%endif

...just before the line with " :&Help". That should add to Privacy menu on the left of the Help menu.

I searched for a way to add this menu automatically with the plugin, but I doesn't seem that simple. Details on how to configure menus can be found here.

About the toolbars/accels/macros, I only provided the commands to call in the config files, but the full syntax is up to the user to implement.

See here for how to configure toolbars. On this page, replace the line refered to as "Command" with one of the lines I provided.

To make it short, consider that in my readme, the "Toolbars & Accelerators" section is to be added to the Plugin Commands for Toolbars page and the "Macros" section to the Plugin Commands for Macros page.

Hope this helps. I made the functions accessible this way to allow experienced users to call them via the K-Meleon main window, but I may add easier ways later.

Romanito,

thanks for your support. I think for the moment that's to complicate for me.
I will wait for your easier solution. Meanwhile I will try to learn about commands.

Salut

hi Romanito,
this is fast improvement smiling smiley), thx works with WinME - again not all features used.
& again mercy bien! & greetings from Hannover

p. s.
If this has not been suggested allready and You will permit that use!
- this plugin should go as standart into next issu of k-m.
(Your "early" version is more than even many seasoned k-m users can do)

about the limitations of the plugin that are inherited by/from k-m.
(You commented on them in Your dokumentation &again in source code)

I have noticed that newly opened windows that are closed again, do not share e .g.
where their i have been (at this link) with main window. Maybe other can have a look into this aspect also or do know what possibly dired consequences this can have.
especially those that know more than me (almost all) should have a look at their obeservations and experiances. Maybe review what they observe? & perhaps in better English than me, smiling smiley)

Because if my observation about these windows knowing little and passing on little info is general and right. A window opened with bout:blank and remaining while shoutdown of other windows and privacy plugin is activated could make clearing of data more complete?

That is my reasoning on basis of my observation. a la prochaine

Maybe we should start a "Plugins" Wiki page?

@rmn good idea smiling smiley)
a link to Romanitos page and description that he made a new privacy plugin!
(if You understand to write into the Wiki?)

@all; maybe: also all people with a home-page may want to mention this new plugin!
because not all k-m users come to forum regularily.
most come only when they have a problem.
If more people tell about it - more users will find out!

guenter,

I think a plugin section to the Wiki on this would be just what we need. One spot where all the latest changes are put in on succient FAQ.

We're talking about K-Meleon plugins ("kplugins").

As a reference, we currently have KPluginSpecs, KPluginExample, and KPluginsAndGcc.

A new page for non-official k-meleon's plug-ins has been created.

It is avalaible by clicking on Resources at the left of the page. And then, in the resources page.

Extend K-Meleon with non official K-meleon's plug-ins

click just under

Enjoy

Hmm... Alain? Peut-être que tu dois additioner à cette page aussi le plugin de Romanito "guestures de la souris"? Il a fait un bon plugin de ça que tu peux trouver dans une autre poste.

C'est seulement une idée...

Hmm... Alain? Perhaps you should also add to that page Romanito's "mouse guestures" plugin? He made a good plugin of that which you can find in another post.

It's only an idea...

À la prochaine fois mon ami!

Alain,

Yes, it is much bettter now. I have loaded up Romain's Privacy DLL and modified it's implementation to suit my needs (I commented out Cookies and Passwords, as I don't want to have too much power on those. The idea of accidentially deleting both gives me the shakes!)

I also like the TrashCan icon and am looking at the best way to incorporate it into the mix.

Romanito,

<<Privacy Plugin 0.0.3 is out.>>

And a very nice 0.0.3 release it is imo. I am currently using it no problems on a WIN98 laptop. As I mentioned elsewhere, I am not using the cookies or passwords delete choices only because I'm scared of accidentially using them. I'm perfectly happy with the others though as deleting cache, history and location bar history has a desire of mine ever since FireFox got PrefButtons and before that Mozilla had PrefBar!

Much thanks for a nice DLL.

About the privacy plugin. By accident I think I discovered that it is hardwired to finding K-Meleon in a folder called, for example:

C:\program files\k-meleon

When I installed it to:

c:\program files\kmeleon

the privacy dll plugin didn't empty out the cache or the URL bar history.

(Works perfectly when installed in the default or expected location.

ndebord,

The privacy plugin relies on those two preferences:

browser.cache.disk.parent_directory
kmeleon.general.settingsDir

Make sure that they point to the right directories (navigate to about:config) and everything should be fine.

Romanito,

Great plugin, btw, I use it all the time.

I'll chalk it up to a one time glitch on my part.
