Or what you can do is rename /program files/k-meleon to, say, /k-meleon_good then reinstall k-meleon (which should create the associations) and then delete the new install folder (/program files/k-meleon) and rename your original good one back to k-meleon.

Takes 3 minutes.

I've downloaded SetBrowser and set K-Meleon as my default browser. Now, every time I open an URL file (Internet link), even if K-Meleon starts opening the right page, Windows gives me an error message like this:

"Can't open "http://www.site.com"; [...]"

How can I solve this problem?

I had that problem. Assuming you're using Win98, what worked for me was to go into Folder Options/File Types, either from the start button or from Windows Explorer via Tools, and locate Hyper Text Document, Internet Shortcut(URL), URL HyperText Transfer Protocol, and URL Secure HyperText Transfer Protocol. Double click on each of those. Make sure that K-Meleon is what is used to open them and in the box that says actions, double click on each action and get rid of the check next to "Use DDE". That got rid of the error messages for me, but I have no idea what DDE is, because IE works fine without it.

DDE = Dynamic Data Exchange or Dynamic Document Exchange...something like that...its supposed to be a simple way for programs to send messages to each other...instead of getting a window handle, getting a class id, &c., you send one DDE message to the queue, and it does all that for you if the program has DDE enabled and can handle the message.

The thing is that most programs don't use DDE--they don't need to unless they are going to have multiple pieces that all talk to each other or something to that effect. So windows stupidly adds a ddeexec key to K-Meleon and it ends up doing wierd things (by sending it to the default DDE program for that message--like mailto: opens the wrong mail app, or opens two windows; local .html files open in two windows instead of one, &c).

I used a .reg file (regedit script) to make K-Meleon the default browser for extensions .htm .html .shtml and protocols http https ftp. I also remove the problematic ddeexec keys. Note this will only work in K-Meleon is installed in the default location "C:\Program Files\K-Meleon" if not you have to change the path in 5 places in the file.

Andrew if you see this posting then could pass it along to the devs to see what they think as I'm doing a little more than what's done during installation.

Will do. I also am looking at another program that will do all that too. I'm going to see if they'll let us use it for K-Meleon.
