You can google for a lengthy explanation, but there are many shortened URLs that cannot be expanded. I tried GetLinkInfo and several other sites. Apparently, the shortened URLs I entered are not expandable. Most sites I visit don't overuse popups. Unfortunately, I must go through several of these link shrinker sites. They're all drowning in popups. The basic K-Meleon popup bl

Until recently, all those companies providing shortened URLs (like linkshrink) didn't bother me. I've noticed a big change for the worse! Some of these link shortener services are behaving like criminal organizations. I am frequently hit by those fake "your system is infected" messages. Also, it's becoming extremely difficult to get past their endless popups. Wh

The demo from Google definitely works! In fact, most CAPTCHA's work ok with K-Meleon 75.1. I've had other problems with 75.1. There are several forums where the login fails to work. I've also noticed an occasional failure at cloud storage sites where links to files are missing. I'm a K-Meleon junkie, but these problems go away when I reluctantly switch to a slower &qu

WOW SIRIA! I was typing my reply to guenter and Mikk. I didn't realize you had added to this thread before I had a chance to post. Thanks for all the additional info. Until now, I just kind of used browsers for my home office and business. I'll definitely follow your advice and suggestions.

Thanks for the link to K-Meleon 76 RC. I placed a tick next to "Never (Block cookies)." There was never a tick next to "Disallow scripts to change images." Like I said, all the settings under the "Image" tab were default. I never had to change any of the "Image" defaults. I returned to a legitimate site with a CAPTCHA box. No change. The CAPTC

You guys are the best! Thank you siria and Mikk. Under Privacy & Security > Paranonia > Accept Cookies the default ticked option is "From the originating website only." You're saying I should select "Never (Block cookies)" or "Always." Correct? One of the best features of K-Meleon is the toolbar that allows you to toggle Cookies, Java, Java

K-Meleon has been my favorite browser for several years. I'm using the latest official stable release, version 75.1. There are a growing number of web pages that fail to render properly with 75.1. Many times I've had to use browsers I don't like because CAPTCHA boxes appear blank with K-Meleon. I've also had problems with several cloud storage (file sharing) sites. I

There are thousands of sites that won't function if you block their popups. The answer seems to be a "popup closer" app, not a blocker. I've tried a popup closer from AnalogX called POW! I thought it would work because it's suppose to close popups with IE and Mozilla based browsers like K-Meleon. Doesn't work. Is there a popup closer (maybe a plugin) that

I was an early adopter of K-Meleon. I probably started with the first stable version several years ago. I couldn't believe how much faster web pages were loading! Other browsers claimed to load pages faster than IE, but I never noticed a significant difference. After installing the latest version a few months ago, I instantly liked this toolbar: http://pasteboard.co/dXMPRcBtT.jpg

Yes, I see what you mean, siria. Do you remember the very early days of computer "help" forums on the web? I sure do! After a few months it was obvious that questions or problems get resolved if large groups of users need the same info. That's why the same questions are asked and answered indefinitely. Don't get me wrong, I've solved countless problems searchin

Hello fred from nl. Sorry for not returning to this thread sooner. I was not familiar with Orbit Downloader, so I read the CNET reviews. This app is packed with junkware. Here is the review from CNET: http://download.cnet.com/Orbit-Downloader/3000-2071_4-10600926.html Unless the editors' review is complete bunk, it would be wise to pick a different download manager. You probably have a plugin for a popular download manager like FlashGet. If the file you select is a direct link, FlashGet will launch with the correct URL. Frequently, the link is a redirect or one of many complex tricks used to hide the real URL. If your manager starts it will not load the correct URL. More often than not, it won't start at all. If the manager is started manually, t

siria, I'm beginning to regret bothering all you smart people with my foolish ideas. I'm not sure what you're suggesting. In other words, is there any way to get a newer version of K-Meleon to run with 98SE and KernelEx? You must understand, I'm just a K-Meleon user. I don't know anything about all the different versions and customized variations of this browser

I'm not surprised an Illegal Operations box appeared when I attempted to run K-Meleon 1.6. Here is the info: K-MELEON executed an invalid instruction in module IMGLIB2.DLL at 019f:01db5477. I apologize for that "bloated" remark. A complex app with many features doesn't mean (to me, anyway) that it's bloated. If an app has numerous useful features that improve performance and provides the user with a better experience then it's definitely not bloated. A truly "bloated" app is bogged down with options that no one cares about or rarely uses.

You guys are amazing! I genuinely appreciate all your replies! I've tried and abandoned more browsers than I can remember. Most were poor to awful. I think you'll agree with me when I say that K-Meleon loads web pages faster than any other browser. It never had endless settings and options like some of the more bloated browsers, but it runs like a race car and that's all

I'm a partner in a business that switched to Linux Distros a few years ago. I keep a copy of 98SE at home because it was customized for my business when we started the company. I also still use command line DOS scripts. Anyway, I've been jumping around the web trying to get all the info I can about updating my older version of K-Meleon (1.5.4) to 1.7. I'm kind of lost.

A plugin is not a program (you know, app). My favorite download manager is FlashGet. There are thousands of free download managers. If you want FlashGet here is the publisher: http://www.flashget.com/index_en.html The 7z archive or the installer package (npfg11.exe) contain the files needed for a K-Meleon plugin. Plugins are like a set of directions pointing to a program. If you

Hello JamesD. Thanks for your reply. During my search for a K-Meleon FlashGet plugin, I was not surprised to find lengthy discussions about creating plugins for K-Meleon. There was much disagreement about using plugins not specifically created for K-Meleon. The installer package npfg11.exe works perfectly. Set the pathname to the K-Meleon Plugins folder. You can download the same fil

I'm sure this is very old news, but when I was searching for the FlashGet plugin installer, every link I found was dead. Several Google searches listed pages at this forum and many other download sites. Finally, I found this long list of FTPs. All the links at filewatcher are good. http://www.filewatcher.com/m/npfg11.exe.247026-0.html I've got FlashGet working with K-Meleon

Thank you Mala. I've been using computers for decades, which means I know how to work from the command line and create scripts. However, I am not a professional programmer. If these kmdownload files require a high level of programming knowledge, they're definitely not for me. What is the +NS file, and how it used to add the NoScript extension?

NoScript Extension: http://noscript.net/ It says you can install this extension in any mozilla-based browser. I use K-Meleon frequently, but I've never tried to install additional plugins or extensions. I found a document about NoScript and K-Meleon while googling. If what I read is correct, the procedure is a complete nightmare! Is there an "easy" way to add NoScrip

I've got a captcha problem that is beyond insane, if such a thing is possible! I'm a partner in a small business. Several times each month I login to a website where I spend major dollars buying products for our business. Their captcha system is like a chronic disease. Unlike most retail or B2B sites that require you to type the four letter captcha when you first setup an acco

Yes JamesD, that sure looks like the way to disable the password manager. Crazy me, I was looking for something that actually referred to the password manager. Maybe the K-Meleon developers could add "password manager" with a tick box to the next version. But hey, why make things too easy! Thanks JamesD, I appreciate the reply.

I've used the last several versions of K-Meleon, including the latest - 1.5.4. After awhile, the password manager stops prompting me with a confirmation dialog box. Not sure why. Can I disable the password manager? It's not listed under Edit > Preferences. It must be listed somewhere, but I can't find it. Thanks guys.

I found a thread about adding a FlashGet plugin to K-Meleon. By the time I reached the end of the thread my brain had turned to mush! I wasn't sure what file(s) to download, how to get the plugin working, etc. Completely my fault. I couldn't follow the instructions. Has someone put together a package that would simplify integrating FlashGet with K-Meleon? Thanks guys.

Thanks JamesD. I emailed Mow Products a couple of days ago. No reply. At least I know this problem is not unique to my ISP. About four years ago I spent many hours searching for a place to buy reasonably priced mower parts. Mow Products price and quality is amazing! I hate sharpening mower blades. With Mow Products you can use a blade several times and junk it. Sears will sell y

I'm trying to load the site mowproducts.com. It may not be important to you, unless you have a backyard that's more like a tropical jungle! I've never had any problems in the past accessing Mow Products with IE or K-Meleon. If I type Mow Products into Google and select "cached" their homepage will load, but none of the links work. In K-Meleon I keep playing a

WOW!! A nice, simple cookie with the name "Google" in Windows cookie folder (or some other folder) is badly needed with this browser. The idea is to save the Google cookie so you don't have to set your preferences each time you use the search engine. I read the info from the link you provided, JamesD. Why does K-Meleon have to make the process of managing cookies so
