QuoteBenoitRen In the meantime, it looks like Windows 7 finally delivers the feature we have been asking for for years. The ability to uninstall IE. AFAIK IE makes part of the Windows OS. So far it's impossible to get rid of IE for good. All you can do is to make it invisible/unusually for the user. Don't know about Windows 7 but I would be very surprised if M$ has modified their O

@ guenter Nothing is wrong. Could you please point to the offending part of my post? I neither did demand something nor did I complain about something. I already changed the image/animation items to fit my needs and also offered to post the modified bitmaps (even they are far from beeing perfect) for anyone who would find any use for them. All I dared to say was: "it would be nice&quo

In contrast to the Phoenity skin the privacy bar of the Klassic skin misses the "Block Image Animation" option. On some sites animated images can be really annoying. I find it very convenient having the option on the privacy bar to quickly turn animated images off/on. Therefore I replaced the "Block Images" item which I never use with the "Block Image Animation" it

Speaking about speed optimization, is there an undocumented hack that will stop K-M treating a local proxy as an usual server? My workaround is to increase the number of connections to a server but it's by far not the ideal solution.

Just in case someone will use the Klassic skin (W2K) with JamesD's macros: PBProxyTog.bmp The below bitmap would be the proper one but for some reason it doesn't work as it should: It might be a more proper way to do it but I found out that by adding the below 2 lines the proxy status will be also displayed in the status bar. _PBProxTog_B_N_0{ setpref(INT,"ne

@ desga2 Great work desga2, very professional! Your setup file is an easy go for everybody. Besides, depending on what button gets used it suits optically to any skin. Now I will have the pain to choose among the eventualities offered by you and JamesD For the moment I'm sticking with JamesD's macros which I only added basic status bar description (direct/over proxy connection)

I've made a new bitmap since I didn't like the earlier one I've made. The difference compared to the old one is barely visible but I like this one better. However this bitmat suits optically only the Klassic skin I'm using. Just in case anybody else is also using the PBProxTog.kmm but with another skin and has problems making a suitable bitmap, I could try to make one.

Does the Gecko engine handle a local proxy like an usual server? I'm asking because in case it does it will have implications concerning an optimal network configuration for faster page loading.

@ JamesD Fine job JamesD! Works like a charm. You've been right, picking up changes from TOOLS perfects the macro! Thx again, danke It's a long way to understand the macro arguments and I'm a lazy type but I'll try to get at least the very basics. I just added two lines to PBProxTog.kmm in order to make the proxy status visible on the status bar while toggling:

@ JamesD Sorry, I didn't read carefully enough your post. It's late here in Germany However I don't have to go to work tomorrow I'll make the image with the dimensions you suggested.

@ JamesD The way it looks now: with the slightly modified ProxyTog image: You could try my ProxyTog.bmp shrinked to 10 pixel high like that of privbar_red/green.bmp With the toolbars locked as you can see on my image it already looks as if it would be part of the privacy bar. That's ok for me at least!!!

@ JamesD Thanks, works like a charm!!! I'll try to make the image look the same like the other items. That's the most easiest and irrelevant part however. Will make a screenshot when ready. Thanks again

Toggle button: I'm afraid I did something wrong. Actually I just placed the ProxTog.kmm in the user defined macros folder. My initially (and actually ) goal was a slight enhancement to the privacy bar without any attracting attention by only adding the toggle off/on option for proxy. The absolute same visual look like the toggle Cookies, Javascript, Java, Referer..., perfectly visua

My guess is that it's because of Avira. I don't know Avira but it's possible that even shutting the scanner down the software is still running at active as a service. Try to put the K-M folder on Avira's exclusion list. In case this won't help I would ask in the Avira user forum for help. Maybe someone will provide you with a better advice.

@ JamesD Just tested and it works! It works exactly the way I imagined it should. It doesn't have to autodetect. All it has to do is to toggle proxy on/off (yes/no). For more complex settings (autodetect, several proxies and so on) we already have the tools menu for. Single minor glitch, the toggle button is greyed out but my guess is it's because of my Klassic skin I use. I alwa

- Check the network settings of IE (or any of your other browsers) Make sure it didn't got misplaced by accident pointing to a non existent proxy. - (2.) You need a tool/sniffer + second working PC/laptop to find out the respective IP-Nr. Copy paste this URL: HTTP://193.99.144.85 and see if you can connect to heise.de If you can connect it might be a DNS issue on your system. - Chec

@ JamesD Don't worry, I have plenty of time It would be nice if once finished it would be implemented in the default setup of further K-M distributions. Of course you can use a real proxy as a learning experience as well if you whish so. The site above, as far as I can see is a web service and not an open public proxy to be used directly with your browser. You can find thousands of

First of all, thanks for all the input. Judging on other items of the privacy bar I thought there might be a much easier way to get a proxy toggled off/on. I was apparently wrong. It's not that I'm so keen to have that option on the privacy bar by all means but just thought that it would make sense if it's place would be there by default. You don't have to put a proxy on

QuoteJamesD How to you get the privacy bar. I have privacy under tools menu, but no bar. View\Toolbars\Privacy Bar -> has to be checked As you can see I've already uncommented settings available in the PrivacyBar I don't have use for.

Since we already have a privacy bar we can edit and customize, IMO it would be handy to include in default setup, alongside existent settings the option to toggle proxy on/off.
