Yes, I had many problems setting KM as the default browser: http://kmeleonbrowser.org/forum/read.php?1,97814

Forgot this: HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Applications\k-meleon.exe In the right-pane, create a new Expandable String Value (REG_EXPAND_SZ) named "TaskbarGroupIcon" and set it's value to: %Programfiles%\K-Meleon\skins\Custom\main.ico Disable and then re-enable "Group similar taskbar buttons" (Taskbar and Start Menu Properties)

OK, in the last 24 hours my custom UA string has stopped working properly in Facebook and the only string that seems to provide full functionality is the built-in FF2. Unfortunately, this gives no credit to KM and isn't acceptable to Myspace (too old, although MS is quite happy to accept the default KM string). So I've installed the UA switcher. Switching is not seamless if FB is ope

The only website I use that has a problem caused by sniffing the UA string is Facebook. I certainly can't see the point in taking the trouble to spoof a newer version of FF if 2 works and I can keep the KM vendor string intact - maybe if the FB programmers sniff that enough times it'll give them a clue (but I doubt it). I've installed the UA switcher. Swithcing is not seamless i

Strangely, I see everything working in FB if I use the built-in FF2 string but the FF3.5.3 string I was using has stopped working in the last 24 hours. The problem for me is that I also use Myspace and that recently stopped accepting the FF2 string although it is cool with the default K-Meleon string.

OK, I've customized the icons to my satisfaction (with the exception of the Loader in the system tray but I'm not bothered about that). For the record, here are my notes: K-Meleon.png is my "original" graphic KM0.gif is the graphic at 256 colors From KM0.gif are derived the 16, 32 & 48 px icons KM3.ico is a multi-icon resource containing the 16, 32 & 48

Thanks for the quick & informative replies. The inline-block elements displaying as block are definitely not browser sniffing problems because I created a couple of simple webpages on my local server to verify before posting.

Ha ha ha, I'm out voted, OK. I completely overlooked skins - sorry - I'll have a play around with it.

I think I prefer foobarly's approach because it is much simpler than using a switcher and always shows K-Meleon in the UA string. But does anyone know how it will really be treated in stats since Firefox is also mentioned? I'm using K-Meleon because it's so much faster than Firefox and I want credit to go where it is due.

Anyone else hate the default K-Meleon icon - that goofy lizard face? I made a replacement icon based on the circular one used on this website but with slightly brighter colors. It was easy to change the shortcut icons but, at the moment, I can't figure out how to change the default icon in the exe.

If the Gecko engine is the same as that used in Firefox, why are some CSS not rendered correctly (as per Firefox)? Examples: inline-block treated as block, same for inline-table and a mysterious problem with disappearing floats.

Hello Yogi KM provides the option to be default browser as a checkbox during install although you are correct it is indeed checked by default and probably shouldn't be. I agree with you but I personally feel that installation should finish with a bold dialog that says "Do you want K-Meleon to be your default browser?" and that's what it should do if you click "Yes&q

Hey ndebord, I didn't think it was necessary to spec the OS since KM only runs under Windows. Sorry. It's WinXP SP3. Also, I know of setbrowser but why should we need it for KM when none of the other browsers do? I didn't see anywhere the KM requires setbrowser and have you read the warnings on its webpage? I think that would put most people off.

Update: Now it's working. I checked the registry and there, still, was IE. I reapplied the file type settings, double-checked the registry (IE was gone), reinstalled StrokeIt and it opened K-Meleon as expected. So,.... the main question I really wanted to ask is why can't K-Meleon do this itself like all the other browsers?

OK, here's what I've done to reproduce the problem: 1. Set IE8 my default browser 2. Verified that links are opening with IE8 3. Set K-Meleon as default browser (from Preferences) 4. Verified that although K-Meleon show as default browser at top of Start menu it does NOT open links - IE still does this 5. Applied modifications to the URL:HTTP and URL:HTTPS file types as per the F

Thanks for your quick reply but it does not seem to address the problem I described. Preferences (F2) -> "Set As Default Browser..." did not work. It simply repeats the installation process which fails to set K-Meleon as default browser for links (which is why the FAQ was needed). It may also be worth pointing out that un-checking "Use DDE" does not seem to stick.

I finally felt forced to find a faster alternative to the bloatware that Firefox has become and K-Meleon seems to (almost) fit the bill. The "almost" in my case refers to the difficulty in setting K-Meleon as my default browser. I'm so frustrated & disappointed. http://kmeleon.sourceforge.net/wiki/FAQ#defaultbrowser solved most of the problems but it's already too di
