guenter, thank you for your additions and clarifications about KM system requirements and architecture! I've tried this on winXP SP3 with newest java available - build 30(?). No plugin workaround applied. We don't know, but with 90% accuracy I can guess that rbodell gets not java-related message, but 'site message' that promotes new FF for 'correct rendering'

rbodell, what version of K-Meleon you are using? I think, it's very old one, because I can't reproduce your problem even on outdated 1.5.4 build. And know please, that if some site says that you "need new Firefox" or something else - for example, that your PC is infected and you need to download something - it usually doesn't mean that you REALLY need this. How to understand the beta3 is REALLY ready? Beta - by definition - isn't 'ready' build. It's working tryout, which must be tested by everyday use. I understand high self-requirements of KM-developers, but ordinary people, average users don't need 'fully-refined-absolute-bugs-free' build - they need just workability and usability - all, that KM-1.6-1.7 has

you really don't need Firefox anyway! And no FF installation can affect you K-Meleon use. Just use new version from here: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/1522294/K-Meleon1.6.0_Beta2dot4_en-US.7z or from my signature - and enjoy all the web!

Just about terms: I think you mean 'URL bar', not 'search bar'. In Chrome both are combined in one. In KM there are no search bar by default (only by plugin). Try to go here: and check highlighted box if unchecked - this allows KM to show you more recently visited places in URL bar

but presence of these files really affects some aspects of the performance of 1.6-1.7 builds I'm using. P.S. I've slightly corrected my previous message though...

I see. And what I really think is that we have to publish links to most recent 1.6-betas on download page. And we have to point somewhere that 1.6beta is the recommended download else we would have neverending stream of "why I can't go to my Yahoo/Facebook/hotmail...?" etc.

check you have this 3 files in windows/system32: Windows\system32\mfc71.dll Windows\system32\msvcp71.dll Windows\system32\msvcr71.dll Second option, you can try to put them in KM-folder

You can use Drag & Drop for search - just install SearchBar Plus kplugin that adds search box, supporting D-n-D.

Quotedugbugoffice2 I have been pushing the K-Meleon as far as I can. With as most about:config settings as I can. Keep in mind it's a Beta. Youtube will freeze a lot. But there is a way to get out of it: http://home.dbdbdugbug.operaunite.com/Projects/content/KMFILES/Readme.txt The settings can be found at: http://home.dbdbdugbug.operaunite.com/Projects/content/KMFILES/A_KMFILES_HE

Quote4td8s well rodocop, you better hope Mozilla doesn't compile/make future versions of Firefox using MS Visual Studio 2010, which requires WinXP SP2 or better. there is some talk that Mozilla may plan to switch to MS VS 2010. I think they definitely would switch. But KM hadn't mastered even GRE 2.0 so it has 'improvement space' at least up to Gecko 8-9 without losing comp

... or use portable builds, installing (just unpacking) them in their own folders. Links to that builds you can find by searching the forum or simply from my signature (some of them - being used by myself - are there).

seniorx, I have a solution for you! If you are familiar with JS, you can find it even more convenient than it was for me. Install javascriptia extension. Save your JS as file on disk (any name, any file extension, any folder) and use it on the Google results page from menu "Bookmarks" or from context-menu 'Inject a script' - select your file and that's it! The same question every time :-) What is your KM version? If using 1.5.x then best you can do is to upgrade to new 1.6 or 1.7. You can try portable builds from my signature or search this forum for more links. In my 1.7 build I have no problems with Gmail.

It's not about OFFICIAL support for OSes. Mozilla must take care of really existing consumer's system configs even after official EOL - because they are widely used in real life. Drop supporting your old customers may lead to massive lost of market share of product so Mozilla would support older FF for some time.

I know. But I just guess about xectis's reasons :-) I didn't like Orca ever but it had its own fans. And I'm going to give a try to new Avant.

seems like G changes things too frequently... And KM-engine became 'too old' in its terms... Sorry... May be our extensions developers and adopters would be more helpful for you... P.S. however, try this build in general use - most issues of old versions would be gone...

Quoteseniorx For K-Meleon-1.7.25db+ link is wrong Yes, it is now. Dugbug has upgraded his build to new GRE, so try bookmark this link http://home.dbdbdugbug.operaunite.com/Projects/content/KMFILES/K-Meleon_1.7/ and look for updated builds if you want. Current working download link is this one: K-Meleon-1.7.26db+.7z

what "newest" exactly? 1.5.4? It's outdated anyway. Usable are the 1.6-beta and 1.7-alpha versions as well as custom builds based on them. Some beautiful builds you can find in my signature. They are portable, so just unzip and use - add your favourite extensions, browse and so on. When it comes to Google services the KM-1.7 is definitely more compatible.
