Ismo, Visited link colors is available now - http://tln.lib.mi.us/~amutch/pro/kmeleon/khistfiles.htm Installing embed_lite.dll also gives up a global history but a plugin has to be created to provide a history window (ctrl-h) like Netscape. Andrew, If you see this maybe you should consider having the stuff about the visited link colors and global history added to the homepage, it seems to be

When I said K-Meleon has a better UI than Phoenix you know exactly what I'm talking about, stop being so blindly devoted to XUL. If something is bad then recognize it and move on to something better. Blind devotion is a sign of ignorance. As for macros go search the forums and the website for yourself to see what macros have been written. Saying that OO is bloated means that all parts of a

AOL/TW is (was?) working on something called AOL Communicator which is email client/address book/instant messenger. 5. There's a bug opened for this issue in the bug tracking system (bug 313). 6. MonkeeSage, You might want to mention the bit about changing the version in the useragent string to your doc (see the third message in this thread). Look at about: - without the change it still says 1.2b. Also have you tried the update with Mozilla 1.3b ?

No I shouldn't try Phoenix and I'm not going to, there's no absolutely point considering I'm content using K-Meleon. Phoenix may have less XUL than Mozilla but it still has a lot. Also I'm not saying K-Meleon is perfect but it certainly has a far better and vastly more efficient UI, it's easily configurable and the macro facility is innovative for a browser. What ma

The global history functionality was just recently added to embedded Mozilla upon which K-Meleon is based, with it visited links color works and the history data is stored in the file history.txt in your profile subdirectory. You have to download one file (embed_lite.dll) from here: http://tln.lib.mi.us/~amutch/pro/kmeleon/khistfiles.htm There's no global history window function yet but you

Stefan, You need a hypocrite check, why are you here using K-Meleon if you think Phoenix and XUL are so good ? You must think they're good or you wouldn't be defending them. Note I'm not against Mozilla on the whole, only XUL and I've stated why and like it or not I'm correct.

Joe, No there was no confusion on Asa's part. If you read the entire thread someone asked how K-Meleon compares to KHTML (which is a separate rendering engine) and that's a valid question. Someone else responded that K-Meleon uses a native OS UI like Chimera instead of XUL and that Phoenix is waning. They also said that KHTML appears to focus on performance and footprint over standards

Phoenix is an experimental browser. It exists as part of a lame attempt to validate XUL, XPCOM, XPFE, and the rest of the "Mozilla X-Files" as viable. XUL is why Mozilla is so big and so very slow and the flawed thinking is that if XUL can be optimized in Phoenix then the same thing can be done in Mozilla. Now anyone who understands programming knows that there's just no way to mak

Please don't build the next release with Mozilla 1.3b, apparently they made lots of changes and now have regressions. See the posting at http://www.mozillanews.org/index.php3?article=129712c9eed74d5b2971f3fe4badd351 Mozilla 1.2.1 with the embed_lite.dll for the global history should be fine in the near term. Hopefully they'll sort out their latest mess soon. Also if they decide to mak

Andrew, Also add URL autocompletion (bug 203) to my enhancements list, this should be doable now that global history support is in. If the devs are interested my macros are also on the forums: View page info/frame info - http://kmeleonbrowser.org/forum/read.php?f=2&i=1555&t=1555 Search (it's msg #3) - http://kmeleonbrowser.org/forum/read.php?f=4&i=3141&t=3141 In both cas

The hosts file is used by networking to resolve IP addresses and has nothing to do with the browser directly.

Andrew, Since you asked on the home page: K-Meleon should use a final release of Mozilla, definitely not an alpha and preferably not a beta. Mozilla 1.3 is due out in Feburary. Bug fixes: 12 - K-Meleon grabs focus every time a new URL loads 288 - Form input fields are sometimes lost on nav_back 297 - "Save As" dialog uses the incorrect filename and type 313 - URLs should not autoload

MonkeeSage, I just checked and I don't have an overlay subdirectory or overlay.rdf anywhere under \Program Files\K-Meleon, is this something new to Mozilla 1.3a ? I had an overlayinfo subdirectory with several dirs under it including messenger which definitely wasn't being used so I removed the entire subtree.

Andrew, I get the distinct impression based on various comments from them that the Mozilla devs don't like any of the lightweight browser projects (K-Meleon, Galeon, Chimera) because they show what a bunch of bloated ill-conceived crap XUL really is and that they put a whole LOT of effort into a really bad UI design. I've tried Mozilla 1.1 and 1.2 and was underwhelmed by both. Mozilla

The /d switch (date) on xcopy only copies files which already exist on the destination for which the source file are newer so it doesn't copy everything. The chrome stuff isn't really important since a lot of that stuff is XUL garbage and isn't used by K-Meleon. Also the chrome files are different between the two, K-Meleon uses embed.jar while Mozilla uses a bunch of .jar files. Th

K-Meleon was mentioned on MozillaZine yesterday (regarding the updated favorites plugin) but in the responses to this posting one of the Mozilla developers (Asa) said the following about K-Meleon and Chimera (and presumably Galeon too) - "But if they really did care about footprint and performance they would be hacking on the rendering engine becuase it's the most heavy-weight compone

Forget joining some yahoo group, here are my simple instructions for upgrading the Mozilla DLLs to a later build which I posted in the development forum: Regarding using a later Mozilla build, this can be done manually if Mozilla is also installed by simply copying the newer DLLs (54 total) from the Mozilla directories to K-Meleon (xcopy /s /d "c:\Program Files\Mozilla\*.dll" "c:\

Alternatively you could use a search macro and bind it to Ctrl-G replacing the default search which only does a Google web search The following macro will do a Google web search by default. By specifying a prefix code before the search term(s) it can search Google Groups (g), Google Groups sorted by date (gd), Google Images (i), Google News (n), Froogle (f), and Google Glossary (gl). The macro c

Andrew, I am aware that work has been done on some of the plugins (like macros) but nothing has been done on the main program in approximately 2 months. Also when will a non-debug build of the new macros.dll be posted ?

Not really, the home page only mentions an update to one plugin, and a unimportant one at that considering K-Meleon is based on Mozilla and not the M$-Borg(tm) browser. The updated beta macros plugin isn't even mentioned. Are there any plans for 0.8 ? What features will be added ? What bugs will be fixed ? I have several open bugs and RFEs in the bugs tracking system but there has been no a

There is already a feature called link prefetching in browsers based on Mozilla 1.2 and higher which prefetches links with specific tags. Preloading ALL links on a page is an insanely bad idea which nobody in their right mind is going to implement in any browser. That would waste an enormous amount of bandwidth since you generally don't visit most links on page. Also consider something link

Making K-Meleon the default browser and removing the ddeexec keys can be done with a .reg file (that's what I did) but there's no way to make it generic for distribution since you have to specify the exact path to k-meleon.exe in several places and .reg files use the backslash as an escape character meaning you have double backslashes in the path and a backslash before any quotes in the

A new macros.dll was posted, in the new version the event macro names are now OnStartup, OnQuit, OnOpenWindow, and OnCloseWindow. Note macros.dll is still a debug build.

You have to create a macro named OnInit and that will be automatically called at startup. Likewise the macro OnQuit will be automatically called at exit.

I did some checking and while the beta macros.dll doesn't have Codeview debugging info in it, it is a debug build which is why it is so much larger than it should be. I'll wait for a non-debug build version.

Why are some of the beta plugins at http://kmeleon.freewebsites.com/ much larger than the release versions ? They don't seem to have debugging info in them. For example the new macros.dll is 153,088 bytes while the 0.7 release version is only 56,320 bytes. Based on the added functionality of calling specifically named macros at startup (OnInit), new window creation (OnCreate) and exit (OnQui

There should be a utility included that would make K-Meleon the default browser after it has be installed. This shouldn't be part of K-Meleon.exe to keep it's size down. This utility (or perhaps an .inf file ?) should make K-Meleon the default browser for types .htm, .html, and .shtml and protocols http, https, and ftp. It should also remove DDE (ddeexec keys) from the 3 protocols since
