Thank you, by deleting the several lines that used the word 'visibility' it seems to have fixed the problem. Just opened and closed KM several times and the privacy bar is remaining in place. You were correct that it was in the classic skin. Martin

I have just installed K-Meleon76RC on Wind XP SP3 A problem I found on an earlier version is back again. When I tick the list of toolbars the only item that is not keeping the setting is the privacy toolbar. As soon as I close the browser and reopen it the privacy toolbar has to be re ticked each time to get it to show up. Any ideas Thanks Martin

Thank you. I found the simple solution was to set the permissions.sqlite file to 'read only' as suggested in the discussion. That does not seem to affect any web site activity such as logging in to bank accounts and other sites. Just means no junk dumped in that file. Martin

K-Meleon/74.0 I have now found there are lists of sites in the above file. Not sure if these are cookies, but does anyone know if sites can read this file? It seems googles spying activities are now so widespread it is impossible to avoid their crap being dumped on your HD. The links below were after just visiting startpage, but I get similar after visting almost any website that uses google fo

I do not use skype nor IE. I have very few programs auto running but have noticed that avira antivirus seems to be putting a line or two in the IE cookies folder. I keep deleting the IE temp internet files and the problem of cookies is repeating. I am in the middle of setting up on a Win 7 computer and will try version 5 beta on that to see if the same problem crops up. Martin

Thanks, >Installs and such try to use IE sometimes. No it is not that as nothing installed for months. It seems to be that some sites I go on with K-Meleon are assuming someone is using IE and dumping their cookies in the IE files. Yesterday I shedded all IE temporary internet files and I just went to a different site. After I came off that site I found the cookies were once again in the I

I was shocked today to find a heap of cookies dumped in my IE explorer folders. I never use that browser and these can only have got there from the use of K-Meleon. Any ideas why this is happening. This is Win XP pro v 3 with K-Meleon 7.4 I think. Martin

Hi, I bought a new PC a couple of weeks ago with Win 8.1. This was because my anti virus program (Avira) say at the end of the year they will stop support for XP pro3. Well, that new computer is going back as 8.1 is the biggest pile of c**p I have seen in 25 years of using computers. I will have to take Curry's (UK) the supplier to court because they refused to take it back. In the meant

Guenther, Thanks for the advice but I still can't get it to work. I give up as this is so time consuming and has driven me nuts trying to get the search engines to work in both beta3 and now 4. I will just use bookmarks instead for the search facility. I see others are suffering from the same bug. I looked for an alternative to K-Melon but it is still one of the best in my view. Mar

In the latest beta 4 the same problem of search engines has cropped up again. Tried the fix I found worked in beta 3 but no luck. If the search.xml is replaced with the one that worked previously, it is not being picked up by the 'find websites tab'. Also, the same old problem of not being able to manually add search engines. Puzzled. Martin

Problem solved. A total unistal including all profiles in 'docs & settings'. I suspect the unistal did not remove that profile when removing the old version. Now I can even add search engines in the last tab. I did though have to add the new search.xml to the docs/settings profile file. That may help others with the same glitch. Martin

Thank you for the advice. It seems the search.xml is now working fine. However, the last tab where you can add a search URL is still not working. I guess this is a separate issue. As to the error consol, yes there are several errors in that and below are the regular ones. -------------------------- While creating services from category 'profile-after-change', could not create service

I had exactly the same problem as above with the search engines (reported in bugs forum). I found a bit of a fix by copying the search.xml from the main K-Melon folder into the documents and settings-K-Melon folder. Clearly in windows XP the program takes some of the settings from the 'documents and settings' rather than the program being self contained. I got back all the search engin

I am not sure what is causing this problem. When I try to add a different seach engine in the preferences 'web search' page, a box appears but it will not let me type anything in it. Same happens if i go to the 'search engines' tab, it refuses to add anything. Just using the latest V74.B3. Not sure if it is something to do with a macro. OK, after a lot of messing around tr

Thanks. I have deleted that version as there were features I did not like. Should have reported this in the bugs section. For a start I found it was not deleting history files properly and found files with sites visited even after setting it to clear all on exit. Also it did not display web pages properly often they were reduced to an unreadable size. Don't take that as criticism because I

Just installed the above version and am puzzled by why it pops up a dos window as it closes? I use Win XP. Also, I detest google and delete all references to them in my firefox about:config file. Can't find a way to delete those entries in this version of K-Melon. Any ideas? Martin

OK sorry for the bother it looks like it was a faulty instalation. When I noticed the translation menu was also missing I deleted the whole lot and used a fresh copy. Now the menues are there and I just have to do the config. Thanks to all who contributed to this web browser. Even firefox is spying on you now via google links!! Martin

Thanks but it looks like something is wrong with this version (or installation) >Use menu TOOLS - WEB SEARCH - CONFIGURE. The Configure entry does not appear, all I get is the search box. I have changed google to bing in the about:config file but on the older version I could just add any search engines from the supplied list and then I got a drop down menu to select them. Martin

https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/1522294/K-Meleon1.6.0_Beta2dot6_en-US.7z I have just replaced my older K-Melon with the above. All seems OK except I can't find out how to set the default search engines. On my old version I had bing and duck duck, won't use google on principle which seems to be the default. Can anyone advise on how to change this setting as trying to select one fr
