Speaking of K-Meleon alternatives it would be interesting to know, according to those who have expressed their opinions so far, what features of a browser would qualify it as an alternative for K-Meleon. Such a possible feature could be the fact that it performs well on an old system and on a device with low resources. (No, it's not the reason I use K-Meleon but it might be a posssible argu

QuoteCarl-RobertIs there a way to start K-Meleon always javascript off no matter if toggled or not? Add this to your user.js file located in your profile folder: user_pref("javascript.enabled", false);

Quoterodocop Well, it actually saves PHF (with all content embedded, sure). I've tested it and it doesn't work for me at least. No embedded images (except for small SVG) on the site I've tested. If you open the saved page, images get retrieved online. Without internet access no images. A fake web archive so to speak. :O

Quoterodocop P.S. You should name the file (instead preset dummy name) and give it an extension in Save dialog. You can make it .phf or .htm/.html/.mht/.kma - whatever. This would be just plain html-page with embedded content - fully compatible with any modern browser. Hmm, I thought it would save the page as web archive as it did in Opera Presto. I'm afraid that I'm missing someth

Nice to hear about Lex. I've lost his trace for many years. Save to PHF was my favorite extension he wrote for Opera Presto before Opera got default support to save as MHT (web archive).

@Rodocop Assuming that you are asking for K-Meleon - "security.OCSP.enabled" set to "0" @Siria I have OCSP disabled myself (privacy concern) but keep in mind that at very rare ocasions it can slow down Opera Presto rendering it almost unusable. Happened on a single site till now and it took me some time to figure out the reason. It was just Opera Presto, other browse

Quotesiria Neither checkmarking, nor dragging them into some toolbar space, on top or side or bottom, nothing works :-/ Under normal circumstances the buttons can be dragged to the toolbar of ones choice. No idea, why it doesn't work. You can try "F12" but I'm afraid that this won't work either. Quotesiria Not sure what "no redirect" means here. Have seen

@Siria The following buttons from the PrivBar are available by default in Opera Presto: Toggle Cookies, Toggle JavaScript, Toggle Animated Images, Toggle Referrer and Toggle Proxies (Customize/Buttons/Preferences). Besides, you can toggle Plug-Ins. You can shorten the buttons by editing the language file located in the locale folder. Furthermore you can costumize your mouse gestures, so yo

@Siria It would be fine if you could make Opera 12.18 work on Win98. QuoteThe new Opera 12.18 removes some obsolete security protocols and finally adds the elliptic curve cipher suite. This is the one security feature which many websites started implementing from the beginning of 2015 and which rendered the old Opera 12.17 useless with them. With this, the reborn Opera 12.18 should be able

@Siria I looked into Opera 10 and it is hopeless. Even so it has support for TLS1.1 + 1.2, the ciphers used are badly outdated. So far it's not primarily a cert prob but that of missing ciphers. It's only Opera Presto v12.18 (which got updated new ciphers) that will hopefully work reliable for the next few years to come. Sorry, this won't be of any help for Win98.

Quotesiria I do have a fallback browser which supposedly can handle TLS1.1 + 1.2: Opera 10 USB At least it shows those TLS as checkmark-options in the pref sheets (opera:config, appeared when I typed about:config) BUT: it doesn't help anything It probably expects to get those certs from the OS, which is even older as XP in my case... Root certificates used by Opera (versions 9.5 thr

Or the most simple way, right-click on the search icon and choose a search engine from those defined in Preferences. BTW, Opera Presto was my default browser for more than a decade. However, I don't miss the search bar at all.

@Anixx Please don't confuse people with unfunded statements. It won't be of anybody's help. Official K-Meleon builds never had search bars as shown in your screenshot. Your screenshot was probably taken from the unofficial Pro version which might have an extension for that search bar.

QuoteAnixx But just in case, how one can return the search bar if needed and has no older installation? Whatever one would need a search bar for (?), I can't recall K-Meleon having a search bar. BTW, which of your older installation has a search bar?

QuoteJ.G. If his UA makes him 'unique among all visitors', then would be uncommon UAs a probable security and privacy concern while visiting a site? :s There is no Ikarus browser. Anyway, the UA is not a security concern. QuoteJ.G. Anyway, which is the most problematic partial string, Goanna/3.4 or K-Meleon/76.0? PS. This remembers me why K-Meleon/77.0 is still not set at useragen

@KMfan2 - Don't mess with about:config. If you want to change default prefs use the user.js file from your profile folder. That's what it is for. - If you want to switch UserAgents search the forum for the guide written by JohnHell. He didn't wrote that guide because he got bored. - If you want site specific UserAgent overrides look at the example below (put them into the user

What exactly doesn't work? The page displays fine for me with the default UserAgent (KM-Goanna latest build on Win7).

I might be wrong but my wild guess is that KMfan2 did use the CSS option. No blocking (merely hiding) so nothing to detect. As for confirmation, I can't since I don't use any extention. However the site tells me (if scripting is enabled) that I'm blocking ads (because of my HOSTS file).

@Mala Okeh - In the past: K-Meleon based on Gecko did use the layout and ECMAScript engine of Firefox ESR it was based on. If something didn't work with the the respective Firefox ESR, no way it could have worked with K-Meleon (Gecko). - At present: K-Meleon based on Goanna is using the layout and ECMAScript engine of Pale Moon. If something doesn't work with Pale Moon, no wa

@roytam1 Has Goanna hidden prefs for Windows 10 which: * override oscpu queries to NT 6.2? * override the default UserAgent to NT 6.2? In case you wonder why I'm asking, see the posts above.

Quotesmallhagrid Any initiative which leads to less google invasiveness will be a good thing IMO,... I have my doubts about any Chromitis suffering browser to be cured from Google's invasiveness. Most (if not all) such projects are an one-man/developer show. They take the source from upstream adding some modifications. Imagine the time for parsing (and if neccessary sanitizing) the en

@J.G. Regardless of your UserAgent (default or overridden), visit this site with JavaScript enabled. What does navigator.oscpu tell you? What does it tell you if you click on "More info..."?

QuoteMala Okeh Thx Yogi, I didn't know but that is what K-Meleon tells me. The other browsers give me the right ones, e.g. Firefox : Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; Win64; x64; rv:57.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/57.0 e.g. Palemoon : Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; WOW64; rv:52.9) Gecko/20100101 Goanna/3.4 Firefox/52.9 PaleMoon/27.6.0a1 Perhaps there is an explanation for that but I did a f

@Mala Okeh I asked you for the default UserAgent shown by K-Meleon. If your OS is Win10 then the UA you posted above can't be the default one. "Windows NT 6.2" stands for Win8 and not for Win10!

@Mala Okeh Dorian's builds were based on Gecko which aren't affected by Dropbox. Since I have no account there I can't test farther on. However - what's exactly your operating system? (Help\About K-Meleon) Make sure that the default UserAgent will be displayed. Maybe tailoring the modified UserAgent to match your OS can help.

Quoterodocop I think Dropbox checks not only UA-string but the engine itself as well... OK, mystery solved! You're right, Dropbox seems that is indeed checking the engine. As soon as I enter a lower version of Firefox Dropbox works. Those of you who don't want to fiddle with the UserAgent for Dropbox.com, simply add the below line to your user.js file in your profile folder.
