Alain, Thanks a lot for creating these new updates - looks very good so far! I'll put a download link on my AppsToGo website too. Cheers, Douglas

Jeffrey, Sorry about the download link on my page becoming invalid. I don't know what happened to it - it was working not long ago. Anyway, I have now replaced it with a new working link. (I had agreed to reduce the load on Alain's site by also providing a download link.) Cheers, Douglas

Thanks for the update Alain. Hope that Dorian can help with kprofile.dll. What is odd is that I never encountered this DLL registration problem with K-M 1.0 running on any Windows XP machines. Something has changed somewhere ...

Although I'm not directly supporting Pocket K-Meleon 1.1, a few more folk have reported problems running the executable, usually producing an error message like: "The application failed to initialize properly (0xc0000005). Click on OK to terminate the application." This was the problem I had on a few Win XP machines. Copying over the MS DLLs to the K-M folder did help on some, bu

@Melone: Sorry, but as I'm now working mostly under Linux, I don't really have the time to look into your queries in detail. However, I don't think I could add much to the replies you have already received. I would certainly look at Fred's CD-specific versions and Alain's recent Pocket K-M 1.1 packages. @Alain: Just to clarify: the kprofile.dll which I used fo

Yes guenter, Different versions of MS DLLs can cause horrible problems, and I think your advice is good. I have wasted much time in the past with certain Windows programs which demanded a particular DLL version. Oh well, time to leave DLL hell for a while and return to Linux and its own package dependency issues ...

Alain, Another one up, another one down! Failed on one Win XP+SP2 machine (which already had the MS DLLs) just as before. Then worked on another Win XP+SP2 machine which didn't have the MS DLLs - I copied them to the K-M folder on the USB flash drive. Very odd indeed, and you might well be right about the MS DLLs putting something in the registry.

Alain, This is very strange! I have just tried Pocket K-M 1.1 under Win 2000 + SP4, both natively and in a VMware Server virtual machine running under Mepis 6.5 Linux. It works fine in both environments. So, I am baffled as to why it didn't work under Win XP at work today. I will try it on another couple of Win XP machines tomorrow and report back if I have further problems.

Alain, Unfortunately, I'm getting an Application Error when I try and run your Pocket K-M 1.1 from a USB flash drive under Windows XP: "The application failed to initialize properly (0xc0000005). Click on OK to terminate the application." I copied across msvcp71.dll and msvcr71.dll to the K-M folder but still no luck. Am I missing something obvious?!

Alain, Further to your good work, would it be okay if I added a link to your jujuLand downloads for Pocket K-M 1.1 from my webpage at http://kmeleon.uk.to? Of course, I wouldn't want to cause you any bandwidth problems!

Hi Zeronero, Mepis 6.5 should be able to use KPPP (out of the box) for dial-up with your modem. But you will have to install the right driver to a hard disk installation of Mepis. It's not really a difficult job, and you can follow my (Farcry's) instructions in these threads: 1) http://www.mepislovers.org/forums/showthread.php?t=6481&highlight=536ep 2) http://www.mepislovers.or

Bravo Alain! Your modifications sound sensible to me. Will have a shot when I get the time.

Alain, I have been using SimplyMEPIS (now 6.5) on 9 of our computers for the last year, mostly with great success. I have recently installed VMware Server on a couple of machines too and it runs Windows 2000 (+SP4) very well. I might even put K-M on the virtual machines now!

Fred and Alain, Yes, as Fred cited, that's the position at the moment. Further, I don't have access to Windows Vista to test anything out on. If you would like to experiment yourself, here are the basic changes I made to produce Pocket K-Meleon 1.02. But I don't know whether kprofile.dll needs to be or has been updated for K-M 1.1, I'm afraid.

I've added a note to my website at http://kmeleon.uk.to regarding my effort going mostly towards Linux at this time. Also, as I don't intend to dabble in Vista, it would be difficult to properly test a new portable K-Meleon 1.1. So, maybe another volunteer can step into the breech? I've been rather out of touch with the details of the 1.1 development - has Dorian produced an upd

Rui, Just copy the necessary DLL files to the folder in which you have installed Pocket K-Meleon. Of course, this may be on a portable drive, such as a USB flash drive. You do not have to install the DLLs to the Windows system folder(s) on the host computer.

Well, my daughter has just started university and she's using that very combination of Pocket K-Meleon and Writely to be able to access her documents in various places. It's not perfect, but it's reasonably fast and certainly usable. Maybe we need an "Applications" forum!

I'm afraid this kind of WGA farce just lends huge weight to the argument that Linux is the most sensible way forward for those of us who can't afford M$'s corporate prices. For most people, the advantage of Win 2000 over Win 98 was significant; the advantage of Win XP over Win 2000 was marginal and dubious; and the advantage of Vista over Win XP is looking about as hard to find as
