QuotecallahanRE: Proxomitron Reborn Well, I did a brief test. The old problem still exists, namely filtering over a secure connection. As long as this issue won't get solved it can't serve as a viable solution for filtering - maybe in the near future but not right now. Besides, I don't know if there are up to date filter sets and at what degree they can satisfy individual need

QuoteJ.G. Nope. In fact, KMG77 profiles are not protected by password... You have understood nothing. Who knows, maybe there is a chance by rereading my post?

Quotesiria QuoteYogi- Portable distributions are not designed for different user accounts. While you can have as many profiles as you want, permissions are not restricted to different users. That's news to me too Permissions in prefs.js and permissions.sqlite and other personal stuff are stored in the single profile folders, and working only for those profiles. I'm afraid you misu

Quotecdlvcdlv I have 4 profiles (for me, my wife and my kids) and I add things to adblock.css now and then. - Portable distributions are not designed for different user accounts. While you can have as many profiles as you want, permissions are not restricted to different users. Normally, one can delete the browser folder before updates and the different profiles won't be affected afterwa

Sorry if I wasn't clear enough. While it's true that legacy extensions will work with Firefox forks but this doesn't apply to K-Meleon, neither to actual development versions nor to future ones. Siria's post above explains why. To make those legacy extensions to work with K-Meleon someone with the necessary skills would have to adapt them to K-Meleon's macro language.

@siria I wouldn't call it a desaster. There is no fork of Quantum (wonder if such a fork will ever exist) and over time legacy extensions for 52.9 ESR wouldn't have worked with Quantum even if Mozilla had kept them alive. The problem is not the addon syntax. The problem is that Mozilla like Google doesn't want their browser to act differently than intended by them. By restr

@callahan Web extensions work only with Firefox Quantum. Keep in mind that web extensions are less powerful than legacy extensions used to be since Mozilla doesn't provide the neccessary APIs anymore. Often legacy extensions are only a bad joke compared to what legacy extensions used to be. This is the legacy extension of uBlock which works with Firefox 52 and probably with its forks d

Quotecdlvcdlv Quotesiria roytam means delete this sub-folder: "c: \ programs \ k-meleon \ browser \" (or wherever KM is installed) But this folder can hold customized user stuff too, especially toolbars.cfg That's what I supposed so I don't delete it. May I have any problem with that? No one can tell you for sure. Roytam1 is the only programmer among us. If the author

Quotecdlvcdlv I usually overwrite all files and folders from the .7z except kplugins folder (because of modified dlls) and av*.dll (I use the FFmpeg LAV filters). The LAV-filters are already included in the .7z package. They are located in K-Meleon's main folder.

@Hermes According to StatCounter, among Windows versions, WinXP has a market share of 3.78% in Russia. This is more than Win8 has or Linux on desktops. Whatever those webmasters are driven by, it's not the goal to please their user base. As for engines, ESR 52.9 is the most secure, stable and field-tested among Gecko based browsers. BTW, Chromium (aside of Google's murky reputat

7-Zip like WinRAR or WinZip is an archiver. Strictly speaking, you don't decompress an archive, you extract it. Insofar, terms like compression and decompression software are rather misleading. BTW, images and videos are also compressed files.

QuoteJ.G. Shouldn't be easier to include only the modified files with their own folder structure and then just overwrite the previous installation? My suggestion was for a clean install and not for overriding an existent one.

The upper part shows the headers sent to deviantart.com by KM with the default site-specific UA. The lower part shows the headers sent to deviantart.com by KM after I emptied the original string for that pref. As you can see KM is sending now its native UA. (This part of the replay was cut out by the forum software, so I'm adding it now.)

Quotesiria That pref must be deleted completely, not just emptied, in order to send the native default UA. Can't confirm.

Quoteroytam1 but if internal suao fails, reverting to engine's default ua just make situation worse. Sorry, I don't undesrand the exact meaning of the statement. Do you mean that if the original site-specific override pref fails, the default UA is worse? If the original site-specific override pref fails, one can try with custom UserAgents. As long as the original site-specific ov

Quotesiria Not sure what you mean exactly with "empty it"? If you define a blank space as UA, the web servers will receive just a blank space in the headers too. Nope. With a blank string the override doesn't work anymore and the server will receive the UA set by the user.

Quotesiria Now wondering, does only the test site not work, or does KM-Goanna not recognize portable plugins in its own plugins folder anymore? The test site doesn't detect the portable plugin. KM-Goanna recognizes the plugin and performs like Gecko-based K-Meleon.

@siria I'm not aware of problems caused by obsolete site-specific-overrides in goanna.js. Assuming that such theoretical problems might occur in the future, it could be fixed easily by Roy. The user could mitigate the problem without hacking omni.ja or even without knowing about the existence of goanna.js. In "about:config" the string for the respective pref can be emptied

Quotesiria Have no clue about this strange preprocessing, always thought fake UAs are only some lines in a settings file (?), but in this case I'd much prefer a browser without them included. Simply set "general.useragent.site_specific_overrides" to false. If you want to add manually your site specific overrides leave the above pref active but delete the respective prefs in

Speaking of default prefs - if I'm not wrong, items related to datareporting can be cleaned up since they are relics of FF.

I did a very ephemeral test with KM74-g22-20180516.win2000. A test on Win7. - the package is clean - cookies.sqlite has 512KB and that's ok. after visiting some sites with cookies disabled, nothing was written to that file. The data base is still empty! - marionette.log

- For those who prefer a clean install instead of overriding an pre-existing install - You don't have to copy over the files you customized, one by one manually at each update. Make an archive (.7z, .zip or .rar) containing those files. Preserve the correct folder structure so they get extracted to the right location!!! Example of such an archive for a portable K-Meleon with its main fol

Quotesmallhagrid I use & really enjoy Rodocop's KM 75.1 Pro in my XP/SP2 VM. Lately YT has gotten quite strange. Its latest oddity is that now it morphs all YT URLs to m.youtube.com... Neither would that make sense nor can I confirm it. Making some searches for YT clips, none of the links I got, were morphed to m.youtube.com... I might be wrong but maybe something in your KM 7
