Browsers based on Gecko engines 1.8.x are really slow with recent versions of the flash reader plugin, so no ammount of fiddling with the pagefile on such a restricted system will change a great deal. You can either downgrade the plugin, loosing compatibility with a lot of sites (for example, YouTube) or try to upgrade the Gecko to generation 1.9.x...

@DasFox: Please try one of the Seamonkey builds by Fred and report back -- if you search this forum, you'll notice some other people reporting similar problems with the more recent builds of KM... Cheers

I'm not sure about this -- so YMMV -- but I think you need to change your browser status to offline (menu "File | Work Offline") to be able to surf the browser cache...

WOW!!! :O EDIT: Best ratio memory/speed yet for a 1.5x KM. Lightining fast, with a memory footprint of around 50 MB. Most of previous SM2 versions limitations still apply... Note: See previous review, if interested. http://kmeleonbrowser.org/forum/read.php?1,87799

To Fred and @ll: Now that Seamonkey 2.0 has a release candidate, I tried again to replicate the procedure indicated last June 1st (above) -- this time using a freshly downloaded K-Meleon-SM2a3 package (from XTHost) and the latest "SeaMonkey Setup 2.0 RC 1.exe" (from www.seamonkey-project.org), extracted with the latest Universal Extractor -- but unfortunately got exactly the same res

www.kmeleon.ru IMHO, and notwithstanding the free spirit of the open source movement, our community isn't big enough yet for forks. That's why I want to suggest that the people from kmeleon.ru should be brought on board the K-Meleon main project through better communication between all parties... I'm sure the Russian speaking community feels pretty happy with the builds they&

Shouldn't it have an updated entry at the K-Meleon Extensions Central? (http://kmext.sourceforge.net/)It's by far one of the best extensions ever, as it lets you use K-Meleon with the download manager of your choice, the one you used even before you became a KM user... I've done some work on it in the past, but I rather think there are more capable people around (Hao, desga2, d

QuoteFred [...]@ foobarly Good to hear that it works better now. As the variation has be made to work well in Linux, some features may not work properly, but this is only an experimental proof of concept. The relatively slow start on your computer may be connected to the restricted resources of your computer, because the heart of the variation is xul.dll, which is the same file that

Well, it seems that the XTHost link is still dead (I just got an 110 error: Connection timed out), but I did manage to get the file at Rapidshare. The scrollbar bug reported earlier is indeed gone from the new version, and I have been testing it eagerly on my P3 1GHz 512MB RAM XP PRO SP2 workstation. Things that are working/liked: - small memory footprint (consistently below 50MB, with 3

Just wanted to say that I enjoyed reading through the candid (if somewhat longish) appraisal of the lesser computer user hardships made by grubstake -- there's much wisdom to be reaped from such narratives.

I know it's aimed at Linux over Wine, but this feels really slugish on my P3 512 MB RAM XP SP2 workstation... Downloaded, extracted, made a few teaks, tested, slumped. Re-extracted, tested vanilla, still slugish... Will keep my Seamonkey Alpha build for the time being.

Testing this with my usual (small) customizations. Thanks, Fred. Is it supposed to have no scroll bars in the page window? I manage to move the viewport up and down with my mouse scroll-wheel, but the bars never show. Could this be caused by some wrong about:config setting? TY again...

Excelent idea, IMHO let down only by the java instalation requisite... http://vanish.cs.washington.edu/ I know this is just a prototype, but couldn't it be transposed to js/vbs/python/whatever is ready at the user system?

Quotepierre16 PS. I used portable versions for each of KM and Thunderbird. All I had to do is create a shortcut in Linux. I like portable versions because I can easily backup emails and KM settings, bookmarks, etc. by copying the entire program folders to a disk or flash memory. ... Ditto!

I searched my system, but couldn't find authplay.dll anywhere. I'm not using Adobe PDF reader. As for Flash, it would be good to know if that file is still needed for the exploit, or it can just happen anyway... :O I #%£@«&§ hate Flash for being such a show-stopper, honeypot target and braindead designer breeder. Let's hope HTML5 can put an end to it soon... TY, Fred,

QuoteHao Jiang I'm thinking to add a new function into next release: When select text and middle click the mouse, kmccf will open a new tab and do search of selected text using the default search engine. Do you think this function is useful or necessary? I find that a very welcome feature, but I have just one niggle: mid-click is OK most of the times, but in some computers the mouse
