Thanks very much for replying JohnHell. From the XZ Utils site: QuoteXZ Utils 5.6.0 and 5.6.1 release tarballs contain a backdoor. These tarballs were created and signed by Jia Tan. Source: https://tukaani.org/xz-backdoor/ The version on my PC is 5.2.2-1 The article you recommended reveals this info: QuoteEvidence shows that the packages are only present in Fedora 41 and Fedora

Hello Folks. There's been an enormous uproar about the xz backdoor - which of course is a concern for Linux users like myself. Panzer was kind enough to share a link for a detector: https://xz.fail Looking around at a whole bunch of things posted about it, none of what I found mentions specific filenames that it aims to infect. Over at Virustotal there is mention of liblzma.so &am

Having a plain, simple, uncluttered, non-cartoonish browser is ALWAYS best IMO. Of the (too many) things available I consider the not-so-new version of Basilisk to be best. The latest version I looked at from it's 'new owner' refused to open correctly under Ubuntu Mate, I posted about this at their forum - and got excuses (only) as replies - no real fix. I may try it again, bu

Hello RJJIII & thanks for your very kind offer. My browser uses mostly revolve around what works best - so for most of my needs (as a Linux user) Basilisk is truly great. With very little effort needed I cleaned it up such that it well suits my old eyes & it has been stable & reliable for quite a while across many updates - BUT=> If I want to watch it fall on its head, all t

Howdy Folks !! Its been some time since I gave this a spin so I did that just now, and...WOW !! Under Ubuntu Mate + WINE7 it is quick as a wink & I gave it my trial by fire as well... The YT monster. WOW AGAIN !! Superb performance - an amazing feat by Roytam1 - sincerest thanks for all your work. Under all my other browsers (too many, sadly) the YT monster is a HUGE resource hog

By sheer serendipity I found this: QuoteUpdate Trusted Root Certification Authorities. Post by MaloK » Wed 09 Jun, 2021 12:33 pm This Package contains everything needed to Update System Trusted Root Certification Authorities. https://theoven.org/viewtopic.php?f=19&t=32 Perhaps it may be used to validate older browsers on older OSes somehow as well ??

If honesty were employed - poor old (but in reality dead) FF should now be called ChromeFox (or even GoogleFox) - 'cuz that IS what it has become already, using Chrome extensions, etc... Back to Seamonkey, I desperately desired for it to be the solution for at least the browser functions of it under Linux, and I even tried using its email portion, BUT=> It turned out to be a terrible

Greetings Rodocop & All. I am very glad to see that this trouble has been postponed. Given my own appreciation for this resource - at only $ 17.20/year, when we once again have some income, I'd be tempted to donate a couple of year's renewal onto it so as to assure its longevity. Better still IMO would be if someone with the proper access level would be willing to use one

YAY !! Reply from Gandi=> QuoteAs I can see, the domain kmeleonbrowser.org has been renewed by its current owner, for a1 year period until 1st November 2022. For your information, a domain registered with Gandi can be renewed by using any other Gandi account, by simply following this procedure: https://docs.gandi.net/en/domain_names/renew/how_to_renew.html#renew-from-gandi-s-home-p

In support of continuity I have updated my gandi account and made a support ticket asking specifically about kmeleonbrowser.org, thusly: QuoteThis domain is soon expiring. The owner is unreachable & admins do not have access to it here. I would like to cover its renewal fee so as to keep that domain alive. How may I do that, please ?? Thanks. So - ultimately, this is just a matter of either paying for the domain registration or getting a very similar domain & pointing it at the forum via DNS. I just looked and for example used a very slightly different name - and right now that .org domain is just $8.88/yr - normally $12.98/yr. Truly not a huge problem if it means keeping this forum alive. Even when the current registration

This seems like it could be sad news in how it could diminish attendance very much. Silly questions, perhaps: 1 - Is this just a matter of paying for renewal of the kmeleonbrowser.org domain ?? 2 - What about -IF- it does expire & can then be picked up by someone who wishes to help keep this forum alive - is that a workable possibility ?? Even though I now rarely use KM, I still vis

Quoting a great page from Panzer's freeware link listing: " A fork of Firefox, focused on privacy, security and freedom. LibreWolf is indeed more private than Firefox as it removes all the telemetry Firefox has pre-configured." https://dt.gl/privacy-cookbook-chapter-3-5-1-beyond-firefox-librewolf/ And fast...and does YT & other video sites very well too.

I was using v87 & they are up to v89.2 - so I grabbed the newer APPIMAGE file, swapped names with the older file, made it executable - and viola - even better !! The older version didn't allow about:config to be edited & I wanted backspace for back - and now I have it !!

Hello Again Luk3Z. I'm pretty well 100% set against even trying Seamonkey again for myself. Somebody did the great trick of slimming it down to browser only, which is a great idea, but even that isn't as good as I've found Librewolf to be: https://librewolf-community.gitlab.io/ I use its appimage: https://gitlab.com/librewolf-community/browser/appimage/-/releases It ope

Greetings Luk3Z !! Since I last posted here some things have been changed about my chosen browsers. Still quite delighted with Ubuntu Mate & still use windoze apps via WINE, but... No more Seamonkey - totally removed it & do not intend to try it again. Over time it got more & more laggy whilst using more & more resources. Went back to Thunderbird for email & that part

A Chinese doctor cant find any job in a hospital in America, so... Instead he opens a clinic and puts a sign outside that reads: "GET TREATMENT FOR $20 - IF NOT CURED GET BACK $100." Cartoon, No idea if you have SP3 or not - I never got it due to my objections regarding some changes it makes. (I am also no longer much of a windows user anymore.) BUT: I still use Mypal 27.8.3 (32 bit) every day just as I did with XP SP2. It is quicker & lighter on resources than any of the newer versions of it that I tried. It also runs very well under Linux via WINE - which is h

Greetings Ben & Siria. Just to add a bit of clarity in addition to what Siria suggested... I am, right now, using my 'daily driver' PC which has very current h/w & Ubuntu Mate 18.04.5 as its OS - BUT=> The browser being used for this reply & other tasks is an older one - Mypal 27.8.3 (32-bit) running via WINE. Hi Siria & All. Some of my time has been 'wasted' to good effect & this problem troubles me no more. Most browsers can run userscripts via some version of Greasemonkey, Tampermonkey, etc. . I now have these, which eliminate the obnoxiousnesses of YT & can be used on a case-by-case basis: - Invidious Redirect - Youtube to Hooktube - YT redirect to Invidious on login

If anyone is looking for the XUL version of this, I got it from the Classic Add-ons Archive. https://github.com/JustOff/ca-archive/releases And the version I am using now is 3.0.6 Thus far I've tried the YT to invidio example, but it hasn't worked...yet.

Our Wonderful Panzer provided this link: http://patrol.psyced.org/ Which says (only too truthfully & painfully IMO) : What's New With Google Firefox As Firefox is in the process of becoming a Google product, we are no longer granted an API that lets us protect you from men in the middle. A very sad truth of our times.

This link still works for the version you pointed out, though it is no longer at the old versions list: https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/downloads/file/1049034/type:attachment/redirector-3.2.1-an+fx.xpi The legacycollector.org site is gone, and the extensions dev has a site for the current version: https://einaregilsson.com/redirector/ But no longer mention

I hope that my query here has a browser-agnostic as well as OS-agnostic solution that maybe someone here will know how to do... Using this URL as my example: https://www.google.com/search?q=whatever I would like it instead somehow to automagically redirect like so: https://duckduckgo.com/?q=whatever Using google search is something I avoid pretty much all the time - maybe 1 out of 100

I changed the title to reflect the edited OP now. Yes - I am a Linux user and I still use windoze apps quite freely, BUT: There is no section here at the K-Meleon forum that is aimed at alternative browsers... Hence 'off topic' ?? This forum IS a superb place to post mentions & questions regarding browsers in general because many of the determined K-Meleon users are also qui
