For anti-malware I would go for SUPERAntiSpyware free edition. It is far better than Spybot & less problematical than MBAM in my experience. Also don't forget SpywareBlaster. For anti-virus I have heard a lot of good things about the Panda Cloud. It might be worth having a look at.

I have heard that a virus/malware form of some sort is getting past many AV apps & making the infected computer display the date as January the first 2016. Does anyone know much about this? From what I can gather SUPERAntiSpyware can detect & remove this malware. Has anyone any experience of this malware? I have more info ~ It appears that there is virus infecting many computers at

It looks like GMER is used in the Avast AV. According to Wilders Security Forums anyhow.

OK.I've discovered that it is a scanner only & cannot remove malware & is a bit specialised. Windows BBS recommend it is to be used with care. I'll stick with SAS I think.

95. GMER?
Does anyone use the GMER root-kit detector? If so, is it any better than SUPERAntiSpyware or Malwarebytes MBAM?

I have Opera 10.10 as my default browser. I had problems trying to set K-Meleon as default but I am not that bothered that I can't. I have had Opera as default for a long time anyway. What I really want to know is how this 'ballot screen' will work? Will it pop-up every time I boot or will it not apply to me as I don't have IE 8 as my default setting? Will I have to uni

OK, thanks. It just looked odd at the time, then I realised it was a 400 page. I very rarely ever see one. SRWare Iron has a funny looking broken 404 page. I reckon they will iron the bugs out of it eventually (no pun intended).

I just did a meta-search & one of the pages was white with the words Bad Request (I think) at the top of the page. Is this anything to worry about? Oh, I get it it...it's a 400 page. It just looked unfamiliar & I am paranoid about malware! :O

QuoteYogi @Daveski17 Did you test the 2 PoCs desga2 referred to with Opera 10.10? Opera 10.10 freezes the same way K-Meleon does. It doesn't surprise me as I don't think Opera #10 is that stable. It crashed a lot on me until I uninstalled my old Yahoo messenger.

More informaton about the bug. It appears that only until # 10.10 did Opera ASA actually fix this bug!

Well...my AV comes free with my ISP & everything else is freeware apart from Windows Defender which was shipped with my OS (Vista HP). I had to buy the hub (router) with the hardware firewall but I can run 6 computers off it. Unfortunately I only have 2 computers & one of those is offline at the moment. When I get it online I will run Ubuntu on it. I won't have to worry too much abou

I know security is important but how much of it do you need with this new exploit? I have hardware & software firewalls, an AV suite, SpywareBlaster, Windows Defender (realtime) & MBAM & SUPERAntiSpyware as 'on-demand' scanners. Oh, & I disable Javascript if I am generally surfing in KM. I think that I'm covered! Plus I check the Conficker Eye Chart occasi

QuoteDoon Daveski17 asked: "Should we (KM users) be worried by these security problems?" Well, this new exploit is almost as bad as it gets, although with javascript as a minimum requirement it doesn't worry me. OK thanks for the info, that is a little scary then. Is KM unique in being able to toggle Javascript on/off with F7? It's a very good idea. Most of the sites I visit with KM I have bookmarked & I am quite convinced they are safe. But to be able to easily turn Javascript off for general browsing is a superb idea. This browser keeps surprising me... in a good way. I'll end up a fanboy LOL

I didn't think that Gecko-engined browsers utilised ActiveX. I think Google Chrome can. I thought ActiveX was a Microsoft thing. I still recommend SpywareBlaster. It has a freeware version & is low maintenance. This is from their page: Multi-Angle Protection Prevent the installation of ActiveX-based spyware and other potentially unwanted programs. Block spying / tracking via coo

This is old news really, I first saw it here. I think that this has more to do with the amount of plug-ins/add-ons that Firefox users can actually employ. I rarely use Firefox, I thought Fx #2 was superb but I really prefer K-Meleon now. I don't know how this affects the general security of KM though in comparison. I suggest you consider using SpywareBlaster as this will specifically give e

LOL! Well, it fooled me. I'm fairly stupid though. I am not that impatient for the upgrades, it's just that I have got KM set up really well & I always worry about upgrades. I remember the Firefox #2 to #3 upgrade. It was a bit of a disaster for me. I hope the KM upgrades go smoothly.

Quotesiria And recently I tried to embellish a bit that horrible gray default background of FF with something nicer, but no chance. Both Firefox & K-Meleon look really nice with Vista aeroglass blue (KM ~ Phoenity Large). You can get a bit bored with everything being blue in Vista though! Firefox is giving me a hard time at the moment & is loading strangely in my 'My Yahoo!' p

As far as I know I have the plug-in activated ~ F2 - K-Meleon Plug-ins - Update Checker (box ticked). I was just curious when I saw that about 1.5.4 in Wiki as I had not seen anything about betas or release candidates. I am so glad that I have K-Meleon now that SeaMonkey 2.0 is giving me problems. In fact I've virtually stopped using SM 2.0. The betas & RCs of SM 2.0 worked fine. It
