A download manager is an external application that handles downloads. K-Meleon (like other browsers) already includes capabilities to download files. Download managers are more complex but may be useful if:
Download managers can pause downloads, download files more quickly via threading, restart downloads, and download files later. They can increase download speeds by splitting files into separate threads that are downloaded at the same time. Downloading files at a later time can be useful if you have limited bandwidth and need to download large files like source code or video.
You can integrate many download managers into K-Meleon using the open-source Flashgot extension. You can download FlashGot from the SeaMonkey project here: https://addons.thunderbird.net/en-US/seamonkey/addon/flashgot/
Some download managers also have macros written to integrate the specific download managers into K-Meleon.
