Specific installation and update instructions are on the Installation Notes section of the Release Notes for each official version of K-Meleon. Check the Downloads Archive or the Release Notes list for installation instructions of older releases.

Installation from .7z

1. Download the .7z file for the latest version of K-Meleon.
2. Extract K-Meleon using an archiver like 7-zip.
   • For a portable installation, you need a blank profile.ini file in your K-Meleon folder. This should exist by default. If you don't see it, you can create a blank file titled profile.ini in the main K-Meleon folder.
3. Double-click k-meleon.exe to launch the browser.

Updating from .7z

1. Rename your older K-Meleon folder to K-Meleon-Old. This is now a temporary backup.
2. Download the .7z file for the latest version of K-Meleon.
3. Extract K-Meleon using 7-zip into a new folder. Do not use your existing K-Meleon folder, and do not run K-Meleon yet.
4. Close any open K-Meleon windows.
5. Copy and paste the following entire folders from K-Meleon-Old to the new K-Meleon folder:
   • \Profiles
   • \browser\defaults\preferences (if you have made custom configs)
   • \macros (if you have added or modified macros)
   • \skins (if you have added or modified skins)
   • \tools (if it exists)
6. Double-click k-meleon.exe and test to see that everything is working. If there are any issues, your backup in K-Meleon-Old should still work exactly as before.

Note: the above description is only one way to handle manual updates. It is also possible to transfer the files in the opposite direction or even create a personal archive. Check out the forum thread on updating for more information.

Installation from .exe

(Installation from .exe is not available on recent releases.)

1. Double-click the K-Meleon.exe file to start the Setup process. At any time, you can stop the K-Meleon installation by clicking the Cancel button.
2. Follow the on-screen instructions in the Setup program.
   1. If you want to get a portable installation, check the option Store profile inside K-Meleon folder.
   2. Choose the desired installation directory.
   3. When completed, you will be given the option of letting K-Meleon start automatically.
3. To use a profile created by a version of K-Meleon before 1.5, open Edit > Preferences > Macro Extension, enable macro module compat, and restart K-Meleon 1.5. This way you can also let your existing Groups be converted into Sessions.

Uninstallation (if installed from .exe)

1. Go to Settings > Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs.
2. Select K-Meleon (remove only).
3. Click on the Add/Remove or Change/Remove button.
4. Click on the Uninstall button.
5. Click on the Close button to close out the uninstall program when it is completed.

Internationalization/Multi-Language Support

• Go to Edit > Preferences (F2) >> GUI Appearance and click the topmost box to select a language.
• K-Meleon is fully localizable and supports multiple languages.
• Language packages for additional installation are available in the K-Meleon Download area.
