No Mozilla or Netscape Bookmarks, No Opera Hotlist ??

I am having very strange behavior from K-Meleon 1.1.2. I can activate the Bookmark
and Hotlist plugins then restart the browser and they appear. When I attempt to
import Bookmarks or the Hotlist from any source by any means the Bookmarks and
Hotlist vanish from the top of the browser. They cannot be reactivated. I have tried
several clean installs and new profiles but this keeps happening. It does not matter
if I important Bookmarks from Firefox or Seamonkey. Or from whatever Opera build.
Also does not change a thing if I import those items by configuring K-Meleon plugins
or by using any of the many bookmark software utilites. Having tried many such as
Bookmark Manager and Bookmark Bridge with all permanently disabling my Bookmarks
and Hotlist I am at a loss as what to do. I am not a programer nor am I even one bit
technically savy so I would greatly appreciate assistance.

I recommend you to give Bookmark Base a try.
It will merge all bookmarks between K-Meleon, Firefox, IE and Opera.

Give a go to (free) BookMarkManager (http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=29922&package_id=22152) or to BookMark Converter (shareware though - Great app, worth the bucks in my opinion! As far as know it, it's the only one that cross-exports keywords, nicks etc. [perfectly] (http://magnusbrading.com/bmc/)

Thanks for the suggestions guys but I need many more. I tried Bookmark Base but get an error message. The procedure entry point GetAddrInfoW copuld not be located in the dynamic link library WS2_32.dll. I do not know what this means or what to do about it. Bookmark Manager and Bookmark Bridge are the 2 which I mentioned in the next to the last sentence. They are working fine with every browser except K-Meleon. I am not exactly sure my description made sense. What happens is if Mozilla Bookmarks are sent to K-Meleon by any method the plugins get permanently disabled. Same problem with the Opera Hotlist. Does not matter if I configure the Plugins by going to there through Preferences in K-Meleon or if I use an external program such as those mentioned. Like I said this is truly bizarre. Maybe I should add this. What I mean by Bookmarks and the Hotlist being permanently disabled is that when KM is restarted they no longer exist. Where they previously were across the top of KM they no longer are. All that is there any longer is File, Edit, View, Groups, Tools, and Help. And HELP is what I seriously need. So keeping sending suggestions. K-Meleon is the fastest browser I no of. I do not want to use Firefox, Opera, SeaMonkey or any other. KM is the best.

This means that you are using Windows 2000 or Windows XP without Service Pack 2.
Bookmark Base OS requirement is Windows XP SP2.

Alexander, thanks very much for the information. My primary concern is the problem
with the Bookmarks and the Hotlist. The reason my operating system has not been
updated is because these old computers do not have large enough hard drives to
add the newest service packs. All I know about this Bookmark problem is that
it has nothing to do with the lack of operating system updates. My other computers
with xp service pack 1 do just fine with the Bookmarks, Favorites, and Hotlist. I
know they only have service pack 1 as I performed clean installs on all including
the ones with the troubles. So I am not really concerned about Bookmark Base as all
the other Bookmark software worked fine, just not with K-Meleon. I do thank you
for your time. Do you or anyone know about possible modifications to the operating
system or K-Meleon to suggest?

I knew I shouldn't have! Every bloody time I download a new version of Kmeleon, there's something that no longer works. As with Flekto, it's the Opera Hotlist. Looks like it's back to 1.0.

Sorry to hear that you too are having these problems rAS. Sounds like this is
a problem many are having. You know it is said for every person who posts a
problem several thousand others are probably having it. I would like to hear
from eveyone with similar problems. I wonder if the operating system ever matters? Mine is XP with Service Pack 2. Thanks to all who can offer us any
suggestions.

Hi, there!

This is my first message.

I am also having a similar problem. My "Bookmarks" on the top of the browser have disappeared, and exaclty like Flekco, I just have "File", "Edit", "View", "Groups", "Tools", "Help", and nothing more. I checked my bookmark file by way of Edit/Configuration/Profile Directory, and it is there along with the backup. However, how do it bring it up to the top of my browser? Please note that I am not interested in sharing or importing IE or NS bookmarks or any other; I just want to use the default KM bookmark.

@Disco Makberto - go to Edit-Advanced Preferences-and under K-Meleon Plugins, click on Netscape Bookmarks, then when the screen comes up put a checkmark in Enable support for Netscape Bookmarks. Close down K-Meleon, then bring it back up. Bookmarks in the menu should reappear.

Sorry Terry. But on many computers especially those using Win xp service
pack 2 they do not. That is why this thread was started. I know as I am
using one of those goofed up ones. And so are several of my friends.
Been looking for a solution a long time before this thread began. Still
looking :-)

@George - hate to hear that. I am using WIN XP2 also. The bookmarks in the menu disappeared on me when XP crashed. That's how I found it. You've probably taken these steps, but here goes anyway. Edit-Preferences-Plugins (left side) and make sure that Bitmapped Menus, Rebar Menu, Toolbar Control Plugin, and Netscape Bookmark plugins all have check marks in them. Then, Edit-Preferences-General, over in Settings folder, this is normally blank if you installed KM with its defaults. The default folder is usually \Documents and Settings\YourName\Application Data\K-Meleon\default\(numbered.slt)\
If your bookmarks are found in there, they should be accessible.
On the other hand, if your default bookmarks are found elsewhere, you could give the new path to where they are in the Settings Folder.

Greetings to everyone. I am having these problems. Additionally Favorites do not
function correctly either. I have seen the Favorites problem listed in many
threads here. Now here's a weird one to me and one to try if you are converting
to XP. Also I hope to shed some light on this for Dorian and other developers.
I and several friends all with several sizes and brands of computers have
stumbled upon something. I say stumbled because it was all by accident.

We have tried several different xp setup discs on several brands of computers.
Many, as in most ended up with Bookmarks, Favorites and Hotlist problems
mentioned here and in other threads. Now for the weird part. If you have a
computer that already has windows 98se or windows 2000 do the following.
Install XP while leaving the old operating system intact. Do NOT reformat
the hard drive. After the upgrade manually remove all the old operating
system junk. K-Melon and everyhthing else WILL work perfectly!

Now I have no programming skills so I hope someone can tell me what is
going on.

Thanks ;-)

Hi! My problem got solved. To begin with, I updated KM with the latest release. At this stage, "Bookmarks" were not showing up on the top. However, after following Terry's advice, they did show up. And, by the way, I am using XP Service 2.

Good luck to the other posters! I hope your problems get solved as well.

Thanks Bert. Your method works perfectly. I was having Bookmark and Hotlist
problems and Favorites did not appear at all. I just changed my xp sp 2
back to win 2k service pack 4. Then I installed xp as you suggested.
Bookmarks, Favorites and Hotlist now appear and all work fine. It is a
unique thing to be figured out. So far this has worked on 5 computers
that all had same problems. So what secret thing is lurking around
inside win 98se and win 2k that xp does not have??
But if you use K-Ninja then watch out. I am still having problems with it.

Bert you have very useful info. Wishing someone could find how to make it work
consistently. I took your advice the day you posted it. I started out with
Windows XP. My Favorites did not exist. So I reformated the drive. Then
installed Windows 98. After that I installed Windows XP SP 1. All was fine
until today when I decided to upgrade to service pack 2. I did not reformat
my hard drive but I have now lost my favorites. What went wrong?
