"Once a profile has been used with Firefox 55 (or later), it should not be used with previous versions of Firefox. IndexedDB, the (DOM) Cache API, Service Workers, and the asm.js cache will all fail to operate, generating confusing errors and causing portions of Firefox and some websites to break. The profile can be made operable again in older versions of Firefox by using the profile "refresh" mechanism." sleepy smiley

The second link brings up a very early version of TheWorld, which -- like Slimbrowser -- uses the Trident rendering engine that's integrated in Windows. It's the same engine that IE uses. Basically they're just IE with some added features, and if you like IE, I suppose you might like one of the above.

The more recent versions of TheWorld, versions 6 and 7, which can be downloaded from Softpedia, are based on Chromium.

I personally dislike the Trident rendering engine. It's the only one I've used that renders CSS stylesheets incorrectly. It also has limited HTML5 support. Of course, the version of IE on my machine is 9; don't know about the later ones. The browsers based on Firefox and Chromium all render CSS correctly, as does K-Meleon.

Also, from what I remember about IE, which I disabled a couple of years ago, it was a chore to disable Javascript temporarily. There was really no way to quickly toggle it on and off. You had to deal with those "zones".

I don't care too much about both Slimbrowser and The World. Anyway let me to say to you all a couple of true facts:

1) Edge, Chrome and Firefox don't allow Java, and very soon they won't allow no plugins at all.
2) People need plugins. Yes, they need them to work, to play, for everything.

I have recommended Kmeleon 76RCpro to all my friends, because they all need plugins too. A browser with no plugins becomes pure garbage, and I know lot of people who are really scare with this nonsense race to the void.

Kmeleon should be more alive than ever. Just keep warm the dream. smiling smiley

Add Safari to the list and you'll get all browsers still maintained / in development one can choose from.
Keep in mind that all oher browsers are basically only shells for the above browser engines.

In future you'll probably hardly find sites where those plugins will be of any use. Besides, some plugins had a bad reputation because of their vulnerabilities.
Imagine the joy of using some unmantained plugings on some obscure sites.

Java, Silverlight, Flash and Sockwave are still maintained. I use Java in the office all day long, my favorite hotel has its website full of silverlight content, my favorite online gaming platform needs flash and sockwave. The use of Java in the European public administration websites is complete madness, with hundreds of sites using it. Furthermore, people will continue using whatever plugin they need, as many people is using unmaintaned Windows XP/7, obsolete or not, maintained or not, as I'm using KM 76proRC with Mozilla 38.2 inside with no problem. Security? Who really cares? It's nonsense to talk about security those days when mostly everybody are using just now smartphones with obsolote Android ROM cores inside, publishing all their lives realtime with dozens of photos and paying with ther smartphone credit cards online or by contacless and whatever -- with tons of apps inside that few people really know their privileges. I will use plugins until my work websites, my game worksites and any worksite needed by me run well with them. smiling smiley

Notes:
- Since Chrome 42, working online with Chrome is hell.
- Since Firefox 51.0.1, working online with Firefox is half hell.
- IE9,10 and 11 are still in mostly all offices in Euroope.
- Java Web Start will become the "new" Java, the same, LOL.
- Edge is a masterpiece of crap, it should be IE12 almost.

Looks like youtube has forced their new design now by default.

Disables HD videos at least in XP.

They have a "restore old youtube" option in the 3 vertical dots menu.

Brings back HD videos again. Flash still doesn't work.

I wonder how long before the "your browser will be unsupported soon" messages start appearing...

It's unfortunate but I've come across this as well, to the point where I can no longer login to youtube. If I search for a video on a search engine, I can find, watch it and click around youtube that way (been saving links to fav channels just in case) but I can't comment (or even see comments, they won't load) or have a view history, etc. I can use YT on my XBOX or PS4 just fine but here, on my computer, using KM, I can only go so far. Not that commenting on videos was a big deal to me anyway, but at this point, it's not even an option.

Eh. That's funny. Because that's the opposite here. Using 75.0.

I discovered YouTube doesn't request a Google+ linked account anymore to post comments, and I logged in a few days ago since years without doing so.

Also, to display comments there was need to enable DOM storage and, since a few days too, I found that there isn't that requisite anymore.

Might be the new redesign? Try to change to the old (but won't last long). But that shouldn't be a problem for login as it is made outside youtube website. If you can login for, lets say Gmail, you can login to YouTube as well.

Okay, slightly off-topic since I started this about youtube... ;-)

I have noticed alot of websites force you to https now. They don't seem to give you any option. You can see where this will break alot of older browsers...

For the last year or two I was able to access an older (and much less intense resource-wise) version of a website by using an extension for firefox/seamonkey called "Default User Agent". I'd set it to IE6, IE7 or IE8 and the older version would load.

I logged a wget session for checking out Miami's weather forecast (with Irma on the way):

I'll steer this one back by saying that youtube is doing the same thing. Forcing https... if you give it an outdated browser like IE 6 you get:

https://www.youtube.com/supported_browsers?next_url=%2F

Starngely, Google still allows old browsers to visit non-https.

Mine doesn't get redirected as it doesn't support TLS 1.1. (Under Windows 2000, of course. Probably the redirect works under XP).

What do you mean?

Most, if not all, Google sites are served under TLS. No way to plain text.

And other sites, it is up to them. Google can't control them, beyond low rank them in search results as they warned time ago (that is the reason all are switching to TLS).

This decision has a gentle and evil face.

Anyway, when using SeaMonkey and Default User Agent extension and setting it to IE6 and then going to http://www.google.com ... I am not redirected to a secure page.

Ok, yes, with Seamonkey works. With an old Seamonkey version (and/or, maybe, switching the UA to IE (didn't test this)).

About the embedded flash, I still can watch them, as J.G.. In my case, as told above, in K-meleon 75.0.

I did twice and both worked with flash. No message to tell it isn't supported :-?

At this point. I don't know what is happening to your environment.

Cool, an embedded video that still plays in KM1.6! Haven't bothered even trying in years, because in FB&Co it stopped working years ago, therefore almost forgotten that in simple plain forums it kept working.
And doesn't even require anything, no javascript permission, no media permission, no DOMstorage, no UA faking, nothing except embedded "objects" permission of course. Right-clicking pops up the little Adobe Flash settings, so assume it's really flash. And my version is of course dating from stone age yet.

If I grab the url from the embedded video and change it to:

https://www.youtube.com/v/ReCdd1gZxSM

and open it in a new window/tab, then it works like I described at the beginning of this thread... very weird.

Be sure and see this other thread on reddit:

I give up for now.

As you discovered yes, changing the domain name is enough.

Might be that YouTube started removing flash support to that domain. Probably, in the upcoming months, we will see how they remove flash support, or, better said, the player (SWF file) that helps to serve videos to the youtube.com/v/ domain and/or URL.

And then youtube.com/embed/, the JavaScript version of the above.

I don't even recall why YouTube started to use that (nocookie) domain, but one thing was sure, I blocked it in my side XD. Actually it was more intrusive.

Ok, they started to disable those URLs, soooooo, end of the game for the flash YouTube.

Make use of downloaders or the extension adapted a few weeks ago to download them as K-meleon may be not able to play videos for XP and below windows operative systems (without tricks):

if only there was a way to make this Youtube No Buffer addon for Firefox to work correctly under K-meleon:
https://add0n.com/no-buffer.html

I use this addon to prevent youtube videos from autoplaying; I got v0.1.7 of the addon to work with Firefox 52 ESR and sort of "modded it" to work with Seamonkey 2.48. so far, it doesn't work yet on K-meleon
