The new forum is vulnerable. First spam found!

There are good and bad news:

- The bad news: I've found and deleted an spam message on the bugs forum, on a very old thread about an issue on the 0'8'2 version. The message tittle was "Loan" and contained several (more than 15) links one after the other, without a coherent structure or text. This was not a new thread, was a message inserted on an old thread.

- The good news: Now, with the new forum system, is easier than ever to delete it. Also it doesn't happen as before that the old thread remained on top. Once deleted the new spam message, the old thread has dissapeared and gone to the cellar of the forum.

Well, one spam message after 12 days is not a bad rate, but I'm afraid that this 12 days we have been clean because the forum was new and unknown to spammers. I hope they have not included us in their particular yellow pages. Time will tell.

It looks like an html page copied/pasted in the post, and probably manually.

We never can filter all these spams, but we now limit seriously the number of it.

The only way to definitevely stop spam, ought to allows only to registered to post, but it's not the way we have choosen.

A+

Yes, now it's almost perfect, IMHO as perfect as it can be.

I just hope it will keep this way for a long time ;-)

Well, another spam message, the same method as the other but this time about "Canadian Pharmacy". Is in the general forum, I've not deleted it yet (will delete it soon, anyway), so you can have a look.

The flood is now deploying itself through the 4 forums, not just the general.

I will let it flood until tomorrow (or until other moderator wants to kill it) to let others see it. At last there are no zillions of messages, just half a dozen (by now).

Doesn't the forum include a way to block out messages with certain words? It seems like some sort of spam fighting device would be available, especially considering it's newer software and all.

Yes it has.

I've only added one word to the censor list, the word is "Biagra" but with "V" instead of "B".
The system doesn't let me post it correctly :-)

In the future days I may introduce new words, but I would like to introduce as little words as possible in the censor list because when a post is rejected it doesn't display an error message it just goes back to the message writting window again and again. The only reason for censoring this word is that half of the spam is related to it.

I accept (and thank) suggestion about words to add to the censor list.

The words "phenter mine" and "trama dol" (but together) has also been added to censor list.

Can you also add a small reportbutton above a topic or post (like a small icon?) If a user sees spam, he can immediately report this to the admins. All users together see more than a couple admins (nofi ;-) )

I said the ban list, not the censor list!

All right, I have emptied the censor list and moved them to the ban list.

The current list of banned words are the following:

cas ino, kw iz, phar macy, phenter mine, trama dol, via gra.

BTW what's the difference between this 2 lists, the ban list and th censor list?

The censor list is just to hide word in the message.
I've fixed the missing error message when using a banned word.

Ok, thanks for the info and for the fix.

Yesterday I tried to post a message with the word via gra and, as the system didn't allowed me to post, I assumed the censor list was the correct place to place the list. Maybe this was because my message only contained one word, I should have tried a longer message with allowed and disallowed words.

I don't know about these things, but I wish we could do something like this:

—Everybody who was registered here would be on a whitelist. There would be no apparent change for these people.

—All the people posting for the first time would be asked to "take a number"—or something like that—but when they did, it would give them clearance to post. This fact (the exact function of the number) would NOT be publicized. People who tried to rush onto the forum would not be able to post.

It would eliminate spammers, but it would not eliminate deliberate vandalism of the forum.

—A variation of this would be to require new people to register and log in—which new people are expecting to do anyway. But after 20 or 50 posts (whatever), the process would become automatic (well, I mean the way it is now).

What I am afraid of is that the list of "bad words" will never end. It seems like there will just be a few, and I hope so, but I'm not so sure. . . . Maybe all this was discussed before?

(And by the way—for encouragement, please look at the positive side. The K-M forum is one of the ONLY forums as open as this. So, even the way it is now, it is really one of the most successful forums on the web.)

Word "Gr om" also added (related and included in several spam messages, about different products, found in the last three days).
