Why Kmeleon 10.2 is generating without stopping cookies files in the default/ndc... ?
I got every time cookies-1 cookies-2 cookies-3 ... practically one file per one web cache !! Crazy !!
That did not happen with previously version and I use Kmeleon since version 7...

I just got mail chrome francaise est finis ( sorry 4 faults but i had to try smiling smiley

This cookies problem does not exist with 1.02 de-AT version.
You can try to delete all cookies-x and see if it behaves better after that.
Maybe k-meleon makes them from desperation because the original 1st one is defect.
Sorry I have no other idea.

hosperm.1 is for allowing/disallowing - not all my profiles have it. There is a nice hosperm.1 at Hao's blog :-) It disallows many advertisement pictures sites.

IF your cookie file ( cookie.txt ) is set to READ ONLY attribute.

If so, delete the 'excess' cookies files, change your cookies.txt file so it is not read only, and, your problem will be resolved.

I hope this helps.

The probleme is the same without checking "read only". What is strange, that they are small size files. Examples:
cookies: # HTTP Cookie File
# http://www.netscape.com/newsref/std/cookie_spec.html
# This is a generated file! Do not edit.
# To delete cookies, use the Cookie Manager.

cookies-1: # HTTP Cookie File
# http://www.netscape.com/newsref/std/cookie_spec.html
# This is a generated file! Do not edit.
# To delete cookies, use the Cookie Manager.

.google.fr TRUE / FALSE 2147368463 PREF ID=befb4f5e2df79741:TM=1172964120:LM=1172964120confused smiley=U_sxFX6sfZZqc2s6

cookies-2: # HTTP Cookie File
# http://www.netscape.com/newsref/std/cookie_spec.html
# This is a generated file! Do not edit.
# To delete cookies, use the Cookie Manager.

.google.fr TRUE / FALSE 2147368463 PREF ID=befb4f5e2df79741:TM=1172964120:LM=1172964120confused smiley=U_sxFX6sfZZqc2s6

And so on. My version of Kmeleon is not installed (.exe). I just got that zipped.

Following your remarks, conclusions were:
1) "read only" instruction forcing to create a new file each time
2) initial file "cookies.txt" corrupted. I was lucky to have yet "cookies.txt" from version 9 of Kmeleon. I changed the files...And now that works.
New obligation: cleaning but nothing in automatic mode as this file is in a strange folder.
Since version 7 of Kmeleon I always put "read only" and everything has worked well along the years. Why this trick is not working now with 1.02 version?

bamboum:

The way Kmeleon 'decides' which cookies to save ( keep ) is dependent on a few things.

From Menu: Edit -> Preferences -> Privacy

On the right . . . under Cookie Acceptance . . . three choices
0 Accept cookies. (Default)
1 Accept site cookies
2 Do not accept cookies
Your choice above will be stored in PREFS.INI ( about:config ) as network.cookie.cookieBehavior

Additionally, you can decide to ONLY accept certain cookies from certain sites ( that is what I do ). On the same screen . . . press the Exceptions... button, and, enter the URLs for the cookies you want to 'allow' or 'block'.

I hope this helps, please be sure to let me / us know.

Really one must "accept cookies" or we are lost on the web.... The good solution is to have automatically a cleaning of the cookies file when closing Kmeleon.ious version of Kmeleon putting reading file as the properties of cookies.dat was perfectly working. Now no...

under Cookie Acceptance . . . three choices

0 Accept cookies. (Default)
1 Accept site cookies
2 Do not accept cookies which of the 3 choices should I use under Cookie Acceptance, before pressing the Exceptions... button, and, entering the URLs for the cookies you want to 'allow' or 'block'. THANKS Rahmaul

The only real way to control cookies is with a separate program like cookie crusher or cookie pal since they can decipher a cookie's function on the fly allowing you to accept some kinds of cookies and rejecting others and keeping a database of your choices. As far as I know no browser is capable yet of doing this though K-Meleon gets high points for its handling of them.

You asked:

Under Cookie Acceptance . . . I use Accept all cookies .

That way, the cookies will be in memory FOR THE CURRENT SESSION, but, when they are written to the hard drive AT THE END OF THE SESSION, only the cookies I have allowed with the 'Exceptions...' option are written to the hard disk.

I hope this helps, please be sure to let me / us know.
