Yes!! It worked. I include the exact steps that I used following your directions in last post.

1) Create folder KM 116 bkup
2) Copy entire contents of K-Meleon 116 folder to KM 116 bkup folder
3} In the folder K-Meleon 116\components\  deleted the file embed_lite.dll
4) In the folder K-Meleon 116\components\  deleted the file compreg.dat
5) In the folder K-Meleon 116\components\  deleted the file xpti.dat
6) Run the update  kmeleon15x-gecko18121-update.exe to K-Meleon 116
7) Start KM 116
8) Navigate to http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/cports.html
9) Download file cports.zip and save to my documents\downloads
10) Check my documents\downloads for the file cports.zip - it was there
11) Used File - Exit K-Meleon to quit KM
12) Restart KM 116 and download another file from a different site 
13) Check to see if the file is in my documents\downloads  -  It was
14) Use X to close KM and the restarted KM.  No error messages

Follow-up to my experience with updated 1.1.3:

Kmeleon takes a much longer time (nearly twice)
to load on start-up compared to non-updated one.
Once running, there is no noticeable difference
in page loading times of the two.

Yes, I can confirm that 1.1.6 with the update takes almost twice a long to display the first page as the non updated copy. I tried both versions from a computer restart to my home page in cache. I allowed two minutes for all the startup stuff to finish before each test. It took 14 seconds for the patched version and 7 for the un-patched. Running XP-SP3 on a medium fast computer.

What you carefully explained was done except for the new hint about that file, if really it's the guilty. I'll test later, but I think I'm going to have the same problem as soccerfan.

De todas maneras, creo que yo no me he metido ni con tu actualización, ni contigo. Lo único que dije, es que la actualización fallaba por el mismo patrón que la anterior sea o no por culpa del nuevo engine. Comentarios como ese sobran, lo digo en serio, aunque vayan en broma.

Por otra parte, que probablemente van por ahí los tiros, tengo todo el derecho a tener una rabieta, eso es rant al fin y al cabo, como lo que dije sobre el ratón y las nuevas funcionalidades que se meten. Si tú tienes todo el tiempo del mundo para probar K-meleon y, además, te gusta que las funcionalidades cambien, guay, no tengo nada en contra, pero no todo el mundo es como tú.

Looks that it works with 1.1.6, even I had only tested about 3 hours, but I can't left this here:

What is embed_lite.dll used for?

I had a look to the net, and the Firefox and Seamonkey folders, and that file doesn't exist on their installations and the question is still in the air and I would like to know:

What was embed_lite.dll used for, within K-meleon? I read a vague reference about History in 0.7 version at mozilazine, but, what about now?

Was just a file used for nothing, a remanent of older versions? :-?

Respecto al archivo embed_lite.dll como has podido leer en el mozillazine.org:

Es un archivo que se usaba en los motores antiguos para manejar el historial.
Éste no se incluye en los motores Gecko 1.8.1.1X modernos y en K-Meleon no se incluye desde la versión 1.5.0. Todo lo que realizaba el archivo embed_lite.dll es gestionado por el kplugin history.dll por lo que no es necesario.

De todas formas los que usais versiones 1.1.x deberíais comprobar que el historial funciona correctamente. Si no es así tal vez deberíais actualizar el kplugin history.dll por alguno de la versión 1.5.X y probar si funciona correctamente.

Es algo parecido a lo que pasa con el archivo profile.dll y profile.xpt, que ya no son necesarios para las versiones 1.5.X, pero en este caso si son necesarios para las versiones 1.1.X aunque actualices el motor Gecko.
