Updated unofficial variation : K-Meleon-1.5.3-Gecko1.9.1.8

I have uploaded a new updated unofficial variation
K-Meleon-1.5.3-Gecko1.9.1.8 based on Seamonkey 2.0.3 .
Gecko 1.9.1.9pre/20100205 from Seamonkey 2.0.3pre (Tinderbox nightly).
This is an experimental version, still using the 70's Microsoft runtimes, based on KM 1.5, basically made using its menu structure .
This version works only, if you have the files msvcp71.dll, msvcr71.dll and mfc71u.dll in your system or in your K-Meleon main folder. If you need these dll's, look for them in the Internet.
It should work in Windows XP , Windows Vista and in Linux with Wine.
Windows 98 is probably not supported anymore by Gecko 1.9.1 .
The profile will be created inside the K-Meleon folder by default.
Don't overwrite your existing profile.
If in Linux you want the profile inside the configuration folder ".wine", rename the file profile.ini to profile.ini-renamed before the first start.
Firefox can be set as user agent in the menu Tools/User Agent,
to avoid errors in complex webpages with insufficient
browser recognition.
An additional Phoenity skin with a Javascript button has been added. Reload the page after enabling or disabling javascript.
A general startpage is already in the bookmarks.
Some functions may not work in this variation, consider that it is only experimental.
Extensions may work or won't work. I have not tested them.

So is this like the official 1.5.3 but with a new gecko? Maybe it will work with Win98+KernelEx, the dlls, well, I will need to download them. Does it support that new video tag which is so cool, and let you watch ogv videos?

The ogg videos ogv work with this variation.
I do not know, if Win98 plus KernelEx will work, but
you can always try. I would be glad if it was the case,
to give Win98 users a possibility to continue using K-Meleon.

But now there is an official 1.5.4 release, so will you update yours? 1.5.4 plus the new gecko?

The main difference between the official 1.5.3 and 1.5.4
is the updated 1.8 gecko, which eliminates vulnerabilities
of the earlier version. Unfortunately gecko 1.8 has got
its last provided update from Seamonkey as it seems,
and new updates will not be available from now on.
The gecko of my variation is the same as of 1.6 alpha,
and further updates will be available for a longer period.

@Fred

Fred, I must be doing something wrong. I can't get my profile from 1.5.3 to work with this version. It continues to create a brand new profile whenever I restart KM, even after, I replace it with my previous one. The results are two profiles in the folder, with the newly created one taking precedence. :s

Hi, Zoohooter,

the easy way: just delete everything IN the new profile folder abcdefg.default, then copy the contents of your old fghijk.default into that folder.

The short way, at least in the long run (pun intended): find your profiles.ini (mind that "s"!) and edit its contents. You might get some information about that HERE (scroll to posts dating 1st-2nd of March)

Cheers

I would rename the folder Profiles that you created inside
the new K-Meleon main folder to "Profiles2". Then copy your
complete personal profile folder into the K-Meleon main folder.
The name of this personal folder is either "K-Meleon", if it
was in your C://Documents etc folder, or "Profiles",
if it was created inside the K-Meleon folder of your original
KM-1.5.3. If the name of the folder was "K-Meleon", rename it
to "Profiles", and restart the browser.

After a few attempts, I discovered that I had to move the ini file as well, but thanks for the replies. Using it for this post smiling smiley
