Partial blanking of image/browser window.
Posted by: Bernard Mercier
Date: October 23, 2002 05:00PM

Version 0.6.5 Build 614 Compiled Tue Oct 22 01:14:23 2002 (XP Home)

Two cases found:

- Some info windows, when closed leave a white place as big as the window was.

- When going with the mouse over the image info is displaced, but a white place is left, as big as the info was.

Yes, I get this problem too with the new beta. Images becomes "distorted" sometimes. On W98.

A screenshot of what I'm talking about is at http://www.geocities.com/k1d_koala/Image1.gif (the image is distorted)
and http://www.geocities.com/k1d_koala/Image2.gif (the image becomes normal again when go over the image with your mouse).
I'll get more screenshots as the problems arise.

I'm not seeing this with XP Pro with the latest 659 build.

I dunno, is anybody else experiencing this on Windows 98?

Anyways I have more screenshot of the partial blanking Bernard is talking about at (coincidentally the problem occurred when I was loading this very page):
http://www.geocities.com/k1d_koala/whitespot.gif (the problem)
http://www.geocities.com/k1d_koala/highlight.gif (highlighting the image)
http://www.geocities.com/k1d_koala/afterbeinghighlighted.gif (image is normal again)

I think several people have reported the 'blanking' problem... the 'distorting', on the other hand, may be system specific, relating to video hardware, etc... or not.

i'm also experiencing this (on win 95 osr 2.x) and don't have problems with video drivers or hardware - in any application except the latest k-m builds...

it has always been there (tool-tip on an image, etc.), but it has never been that worse (complete website-text disappears, if a dialog-box pops up, and so on.).

We might need to clarify - we have consistently seen white spaces from dialogs and also from tooltips. However, we haven't consistently seen the image distortion. Is that what some of you are seeing?

I'm referring to both the white spaces and the image distortion problem, I guess. Its strange because I have the image distortion problem with K-Meleon. Not IE or Opera.

Version 0.6.5 Build 647 Compiled Tue Oct 22 12:32:11 2002

I only experience the white spot problem, not the distortion.

Can we recheck this on the latest beta? It's build 663.

Come to think of it, I don't think I've seen any distorted images, since my last screenshot. Maybe I just haven't been noticing them lately (altho this problem was definitely present in the previous betas for me), but to my understanding the newest beta has eliminates the issue.
Out of curiosity, is the white spot, an exclusive K-Meleon bug, or a bug that the Mozilla people need to fix.

I think both "white spot" bugs are our problem.

The image distortion seems to be back for me, in Build 674. Is there anyway I can download Build 647 again, just to confirm that is the case?

Sure, just download from the same location.

I've always had the "white space" problem with tooltips and, rarely, the distortion of small parts of the screen. If I scroll or minimize then maximize the window, the distortion / blanking goes away. I have always assumed it was related to only having 4 MB of video RAM on my computers graphic card.

This problem is still there.... using build 681, XP pro, ATI Radeon 8500, i've uploaded a screenshot. this happened after i minimized Trillian 0.74 (http://www.trillian.cc), this *always* happens only *if* k-meleon window is maximized.

Brian,

The link doesn't work to quote:

"A Hotlinking Error Has Occured!

We have detected a hotlinking error. Hotlinking is when you link to images or NON html files on 150m.com from another host. Hotlinking is not allowed for our FREE Accounts. Hotlinking is allowed for our paid accounts. Your account can be upgraded in the user section when you have logged in. "

Can you outline the steps that lead to the blanking problem for you?

I guess nobody is having the image distortion problem, do you know what could be wrong? My video settings maybe?

Andrew, I meant the location for Build 488.

Yes, maybe. I have seen Intel Video cards do strange things to browsers if they haven't the correct dirvers (misplaced text, form text boxes half drawn etc.)

Yes, this is exactly the same for me. When the browser window is maximized and I read a icq message while K-Meleon is in the background, there are white spaces in the window.

The problem is still there, as soon as I close a window there is a white spot/area left behind.
