What i'm noticing, after playing with it a bit, is that this 'blanking' happens only when a small window is open which fits entirely within the screen area consisting of k-meleon's client area... if any corner of the smaller window is outside of this area, it doesn't happen. This appears to be true regardless of whether k-meleon is maximized or not.

I am having a similar problem. I work for the Medical College of Georgia and we have an NT environment. When I apply the kiosk mode to KMeleon, we can get three deep into our online catalog and the screen begins displaying lines which hide the text.

i had image distortion on ie but not k-meleon, the white spaces (more of a light grey on my setup :Þ ) i can live with, not as if it hinders my browsing much just scrolling till its not on the screen and it dissapearing
