Ну это не костыль, а штатная настройка. На самом деле я рекомендую именно так делать безотносительно КМ - это решает массу разных проблем. Strange about KM 75 (75.1 etc.) as it behaves so (hotkeys off) almost everywhere and everytime :-)

I think there is no way with KM-Gecko and XPSP2. Well, I have the same issue with KM75.1 even under Win7, for example. And it seems that KM 76 Pro under XPSP3 plays all well. May be you give some links with no sound or no picture?
