QuoteZephyr Whenever I click on htm and html files in Explorer after having associated these file types with K-Meleon it opens with the message: Invalid Address The URL is not valid and cannot be loaded. The provided address is not in a recognized format. Please check the location bar for mistakes and try again. I have made K-Meleon the default browser in the K-Meleon preferences and

Quotesiria Nice to hear of course, just curious: When checking on about:config page, is the setting for "dom.storage.enabled" the same in both browsers? But of course a 100 other permissions settings can interfere too. Yes, I have "dom.storage.enabled" set to false in both browsers. In fact, I'm using identical values for most of the about:config settings in both bro

Just thought I'd share this with you K-Meleonaires; this is neither a complaint nor a bug report: I was recently given a link to some publicly accessible folders on Google Drive, and was able to access them with a Chrome clone, but I recently gave up on Chromium-based browser altogether and tried to access the folders with Firefox 43. All I got was a blank screen. The progress indicator n

Quoteguenter We wanted it easily accessible / free of barrier. I understand. One of my earliest posts on this site was actually made before I registered, so without logging in. That came as a surprise to me. I can also log in with cookies and Javascript completely blocked, and still post; of course, the style toolbar isn't available without Javascript, but the various BB Codes help in that

Oops -- sorry about that! I should have noticed the dates in those posts! :O Something needs to be done about how easy it is for this forum to be spammed. The documentation pages are riddled with spam, too, at least they were the last time I viewed them.

QuoteReLoader fefresh every xxx seconds is not the same,if I build java script frame? will it be better if k-melon codded it within the tool bar... I'm wondering what version of K-Meleon you folks are using. Both 74 and 76 RC allow you to automatically reload pages. Just right-click on the reload button in the toolbar. In the menu that pops up, select "Continuous reload". You

QuoteJohnHell Quotesiria QuoteJohnHellFirst thing after install XP or above: disable system restore. Oh great - and there I was planning to use it when someday using another system. Which are the probs with it? From above: Thanks, but I prefer to be responsible of my disasters and make backups by myself. For the average, there is no problem, for me, starts on disk space usage. And why?,

QuoteJohnHell ... on NT systems (NT 4.0 to latest 10) the registry is a few file hives and restoring it (one of them or all) with utilities like ERUNT, replaces the hives by the old, meaning that the registry is as it was before, so doesn't leave traces of old keys or deletes other keys. Does Windows System Restore do the same thing with the registry? I've used that in the past to cur

Quoteguenter Change the ISP and tell them why. Unfortunately, it isn't as easy as that in my location. My current ISP is a cable TV company and the internet connection is through the TV cable. There's only one other ISP available here, a phone company. Both of them charge far too much, but the phone company is even worse. They deliver internet service through an ADSL phone line

Quoteguenter Every once in a while You find a page that does not like K-Meleon's update cycle. Or the browser name or... The world wants to be deceived. This a FAQ and the answer is: Spoof the Firefox version that the page wants. BTW. Youtube likes my nightly FF string when I post comments.:O True, guenter, spoofing the UA usually does the trick on YouTube and oth

Quotesiria Too complicated for everyday use ;-) But great for occasionally testing new strings that aren't in the menu yet. You're right, but in my case I don't change my UA on a daily basis. My current one has been in use for several months now, and so far I haven't run across any websites that ask me to use a different or updated browser. The only exception is Google'

@rodocop: I have Adblock Plus 2.6.7 running successfully in the release version of KM 75. There is one thing I'm not clear about, however: I have "Count filter hits" enabled. In the past I've used ABP in Firefox, and the hit numbers appeared on the toolbar beneath the ABP button. This is not the case in KM, perhaps not even possible, so where can one see these counts? By

I use a different approach; it takes a few steps, but I don't need to change the UA very often, anyway. Go to about:config (just like in Firefox) and look for the following: general.useragent.override If that key exists, you can open it and edit what's there. If it doesn't exist, create it as a new string value by right-clicking any of the other keys, selecting New, then Stri

I doubt whether it has anything to do with a codec. KM 75 handles all the HTML5 elements just fine, including the audio and video players. The lesson buttons don't even bring up the page they're supposed to open, although the appropriate URLs do appear in the address bar. Another development, however, is this: I tried removing all the blocked URLs from my Javascript permissions list

Just an update to this Duolingo.com issue: It turns out that Facebook has nothing to do with my failed attempts to use Duolingo.com. I'm no longer seeing any indication that the site is trying to connect with Facebook in the background. The site doesn't crash any browser on my system. However, neither of my two Gecko browsers, FF43 and KM75, respond at all to clicks on the lesson but

That's K-Meleon's new mascot following the crowd. Ironically, however, the browser itself doesn't follow the crowd; it's in a class by itself! To be honest, I think I prefer to see the browser on my computer than that lizard.

Quotegordon451 Quotefoliator ... which probably means that my hosts file is being ignored by that browser. Ummm, no. Hosts is supplied and used by the OS. Browsers send a request for a file, the OS looks at the hosts file and if there is an entry the appropriate action is taken. This is either a re-route to local-host (127...) or to a specialised IP different from the usual, possibly to direc

QuoteYogi No probs with duolingo.com here. Checked with both KM75 and KM76RC. However I didn't test with clean installs. I don't use any sort of 'safe DNS' and have disabled my HOSTS file during checking. That's interesting about the hosts file, because I just tried duolingo.com in both Firefox 43 and K-Meleon 75, with nothing disabled. It didn't crash either of t

I just tried that site on my little netbook running KM 76 RC. It seemed to be taking forever for the page to come up, but it actually never loaded and locked up both the browser and the OS, instead. I couldn't even bring up the task manager to kill the process. The unresponsive script warning did not come up at all, probably because by then there was not enough memory left to do even that. I

Quotesiria LOL!

QuoteJamesDIf you can have two different settings in Netscape bookmarks for current or new tab, then I suspect they might not be the same setting or the setting is not being read at the right time. That's what seems so strange about it. Enabling the option under Browsing/General seemed to also enable the one under Netscape Bookmarks, but at some point one of them remained unchecked (can

This problem is a bit hard to describe, so please bear with me. I had gone back to using KM 75, but recently decided to try 76 RC again, since the only issues I had with it were with the menu icons and about:preferences, and not too critical. So I downloaded the 7z archive, but the 76 RC package has since been modified by Dorian to remove the SSE requirement, and this has led to some strange b

Just when I thought I might be the oldest user here. Well, I turn 70 this winter, and it seems the older I get, the less I understand what makes people tick. Fortunately those malware folks and the other kinds of vandals aren't causing bodily harm, but I wouldn't want to meet one of them in a dark corner somewhere. :O As for harming others, I've been a pacifist my entire lif

Quotesmallhagrid IMO the biggest part of the malware/virus problem is the sickos who make that stuff; The concept of anyone having a NEED to do something that malicious is one that this old guy simply cannot get his mind around. Common vandalism, like one sees on street signs, etc., usually has no discernible motive or purpose either, and in that sense, malware is just a digital form of vandal

QuoteYogi- Regarding attachments How comes that MS Windows is still hiding file extensions by default? Some users don't know how to change that, or don't even realize that they can. There are many third-party file managers out there that are far better than Windows Explorer, anyway, and usually show extensions by default. QuoteWhat are browser vendors doing? They are making active

Just thought I'd share this: http://www.cbc.ca/news/technology/antivirus-software-1.3668746 It seems worth reading, and touches on what I've been suspecting all along, especially after installing Norton Antivirus on a friend's computer. It turned out to be very intrusive, claiming to find all kinds of viruses, but offering no way to remove them. After uninstalling Norton Anti

Wow, that doesn't seem at all typical of K-Meleon! By comparison, with nothing but about:blank loaded, my task manager only shows about 23,000 kb of memory in use and a 0% CPU load. This is just after startup. What version of KM are you using, and on what operating system? Also, had the browser just started, or had you been visiting a lot of sites before going to a blank page?

Quoterodocop I always create special folder 'portable' on the non-system disk and it ensures me that whatever I'll do with my system (even reinstall) all my stuff will be intact and ready for work at any time. By "non-system disk", are you referring to a separate hard drive without any system files, or do you simply place your portable folder directly beneath the root o
