See if your answer is in TOOLS > Privacy > Settings and let us know if that helps you or not. My guess is that you would have to restart the browser before your choices there "stick". (And do be sure you are really re-starting it, if you use auto-load.) But I don't use that feature myself, so I'm not sure of my answer. Someone else might come along with a better

@foobarly, Bill himself said, about a year ago, that the biggest competitor to Vista would be neither Apple nor Linux, but rather XP. Yes, he really said that! Probably because it's true. Microsoft traditionally has seemed to regard old programs like the plague. So the petition might forestall abandonment for awhile; we've seen that happen before. But I'm not sure that it would

. . .Well, the ones I played with were based in Barts. The point to it would be in repairing an XP. You could bring up the USB stick's XP "along side" the ailing XP and reach over and fix it. This might (or might not) be easier than, say, setting up a second XP on a different partition and doing it that way--although you could have that second XP ready to go in about an hour, a

Sure, I agree. One of the really good things about the internet is that it brings people of different languages and cultures together. Certainly it is a privilege, not an encumbrance, to see languages being mixed and matched. Besides, English is the language of the most aggressively capitalist mindset. When I am in Central America, I delight with struggling along with my very rough Spanish. I

Personally, I'd have chosen to go from 98se to XP and forget about Vista, but that's just in my opinion. I maintain Vista on a friend's brand new, powerful machine, but on my own I tried Vista and dumped it. XP knows files. XP is a workhorse, and it could be the future cult-OS. Vista is a bimbo, pretty but not able to do things (especially file manipulation) efficiently. On the oth

. . .Keeping in mind that any language is OK on this forum. Sometimes other forums demand English, but here people are happy to accept various languages, with English as default. If something is very important, usually there is someone who can translate. I'm not sure if I've seen Portuguese translated on the K-M forum, but I think there are probably a few people here who can do it.

I am fascinated by all this. I had never heard of TOR. Especially when you put together a highly portable notebook computer and a USB stick (as a sort of satellite), the possibilities seem tantalizing. I keep getting the feeling that there is more to this than meets the eye——that there are some pretty neat things that haven't quite been thought of yet. Thanks, everyone.

Hmmm. Thank you very much, Fred. Now I would like to see a comparison of this new K-M for CD, with Alain's Portable K-M. QuoteFredcan be burned to CD, to be used from a CD drive, or from any other drive. If K-M can be run from a CD, then that same K-M can be run from a USB stick, right? Last year I did have real-life experience using a portable FF, with all my bookmarks, at an inter

You could also create a new thread with "Windows 98" as part of the Subject. That would bring the list up to date. There always seems to be interest in these things, so you'd get good response. Users' OSs (and even users' ages and countries of residence) can be seen as relevant to their browser. K-M is a good browser choice to go with Windows 98, so you're defini

I think K-Meleon needs a coffee setting. Then it would be the "compleat browser". I'm referring to a wonderful video you can download from Tom's Hardware, which is at http://www.tomshardware.com/site/videos/index.html . You may have thought your computer had everything, but, well, take a look on that page at thg_video_16_coffee_machine_wmv.wmv Only problem is, Guenter us

I've noticed in the last few months that my Firefox is having various kinds of trouble, while K-M isn't. I've never seen the two behave so differently before. My FF can be extremely slow, and tends to gardble my main Aljazeera news page. It's as though the computer were completely maxed out. At the very same time, if K-M is in use in addition (so the poor old computer is worki

@Phil, your last paragraph pretty well cinches K-M as your best choice for what you want. As for security, I think K-M rates very well there too. Good luck with your hard disk. Fred is an extremely good source, so between your friend and Fred I think your chances of success are good. Please let us know; you can bet somebody else in a similar situation is silently watching how it goes.

I second this request. Random colours, one for each layer or tab, would look tres cool. It is an extension in FF called Colorful Tabs, and it has been very popular with my over-the-shoulder viewers of my system. It looks pretty, and it is a real help. @Phil, K-M introduces the idea of a "default" browser not necessarily being the browser that is most-used by the end-user. A lot of p

Sorry for the space used here; just want to add that this exercise is purely for the theory or the learning. I do have an extremely simple workaround: Because my Main Menu displays File - Edit - Groups, I can simply drag my next toolbar over a bit and cover up Groups! So there is no PROBLEM; just an intellectual exercise! Thank you.

Still working with the Groups entry--trying to get rid of the Main Bar display while keeping the display in the Compact Menu and so not disabling the Groups module--I see that kko says this in K-Meleon 1.x Reference: _________________ You are not forced to use the new system if you don't want to. When an old macro definition file (macros.cfg) is found in your Settings Folder, it is used

Well, I've fixed part of the situation by changing the Main Bar to this. (I'll just show the first part, instead of the whole thing): !Main{ :&File :&Edit -&View Now I have File - Edit - Groups displaying as the Main Bar, with a fully functioning compact menu.

@kko, thank you so much for that ton of work you did in replying so thoroughly! Just fantastic. I have just begun now to study what you've said and to work with it. But first I wanted to acknowledge what you did. Excellent, just excellent! I would have been slow to guess the new concept. You're right; "just asking" can make things a lot faster. I had noticed in passing

If it is a Cookie setting you need to change, that would be in EDIT > Preferences > Privacy > Cookie Acceptance or/and EDIT > Advanced Preferences > Privacy & Security or/and TOOLS > Privacy > Settings Unless you have a definite reason to be very strict about your cookies, you could try relaxing all the settings, RESTARTING K-MELEON, and trying your Hotmail acc

cf http://kmeleonbrowser.org/forum/read.php?1,74662 (Caktus appears to have been working on this a mile or two in front of me.) I thought I had this right, but it's more complex than I realized. The idea is to retain the Main Bar but to reduce its display. In this case, I'd like to show only File and Edit. Right now, I have it down to File - Edit - Groups - Tools. The problem

Superb! Thank you, Mr. Foobarly! You were absolutely right, and life is swell again. When I went to Advanced Prefs, I discovered them missing from the menu. Somehow I had removed Advanced Prefs, although Prefs were still there. I hadn't realized until I was following your suggestion. So I accessed Advanced Prefs via F2 and sure enough, things were as you said; fixed it; no problem. (Now

Well, thanks for the compliment! Gee whiz. I think bickering comes from the fact that any creative person has his own individual imaginative spirit, probably the most important thing to him he DOES have. That kind of person is likely thin-skinned, sensitive, whatever you want to call it. "Artistic temperaments" are emotional temperaments. Then you notice these guys are working on com

Until you hear from Carson in Toronto, maybe I can make a suggestion as Carson in Vancouver. I haven't been around since Skirmishes Ver 0.389-c41Z-2 episode of hostilities (just kidding!), and I'm not a mediator, but in reading the Christmas Thread, it does seem to me that one new technique might help: Why not create a place, a sort of a "box" somewhere, probably right on t

K-M is suddenly asking me to confirm setting cookies, pretty well wherever I go. I must have pressed a wrong button somewhere. Under Privacy, I have already selected "Accept all cookies". Some other setting must be undermining that one. No problems on Firefox, so its not an OS setting. At least I think that's unlikely. __________ Also, just as a suggestion: - The Confirm
