Quotekko I ran K-Meleon on a P3 with 256 MB RAM myself, until it perished last year. I had Java disabled and Flashblock enabled and never experienced any performance problems... No performance problems here with a 500MHz-CPU and 184MB-RAM. Java is not installed while Flash objects are blocked. Besides, JavaSript is disabled and gets enabled only seldom when absolute necessary. As a rule I ha

QuotefoobarlyI sincereely think Dorian has done an excelent job in KM development, which has progressed by leaps and bounds up to its current state, but the recent two tiered development model needs urgent revision, because it risks alienating the rather sparse KM user base -- does anyone ever wonder why is that a project as old as K-Meleon never managed to grow beyond the hundred or so loyal dev

Quotedisrupted i was searching for an xps viewer to read bing's development notes which was only available in that format.. when i went to ms site..they displayed the link for it but instead of allowing me to download the actual xps viewer, the link was for the .net 3 setup(which is required by their xps viewer).. It seems that they have changed it now. I was able to download with both K

Hi Raman, sorry for the misguidance. Unfortunately I can't test on other Windows than 2k. The reason I uploaded the latest version was Fred's suggestion to try the (updated) Flash version 9.

We knew about M$ updating Windows without users' consent. However fiddling with a third party application seems to be a novum nonetheless.

QuoteFrenvool actually, i found that my browser is already set to Block Java under Tools. Yet gizmodo still loads slow. Keep in mind that Java and JavaScript are totally different things.

Adobe is a very good example but I hardly could name a single third party plugin that didn't had several flaws in the past. BTW, the newest one and it's not even the plugin itself: New vulnerability in quartz.dll Quicktime parsing

Quotepanzer angelwriter is the kmeleon of rich document editors.. Angel Writer claims to be primarily a word processor ("Power of free Microsoft Word for you!") However it can't render DOC. Therefore those looking for a (basic) lightweight and very fast word processor alternative might be interested in AtlantisNova which can render DOC as well.

Or in case (which IMO is even more probably) the plugin qualifies (by design or because of poor coding) for an attack vector.

Thanks for the reply. Plugins choser is nice. However I'm quite reluctant toward plugins generally, definitively adverse toward those involved in establishing connections, and hactiveX is in any case banned

security.xpconnect.plugin.unrestricted default boolean true Isn't this a bit of a security risk? Advantages to keep it true? Disadvantages to set it to false?

Quotedrongo I still did not find all k-meleon's extenstions that i like in firefox. Here my little list: Wonder how much you (like most users) know about some of the extensions you like so much (in FF). It's not my intend to start a discussion about browser extensions generally. Take it therefore just as a wee hint. Author's motivations can be quite different. This is underst

Quotecork1958I DO scan all files immediately after downloading, NOT after installing, and stated that in previous post. All of your examples in this thread are referring to scans made after installation: Quotecork1958 1.) C:\Documents and Settings\Jerrod\Local Settings\Application Data\K-Meleon\zpxd1mjo.default\Cache\3A15337Dd01 [0] Archive type: ZIP --> KGN.exe Is the TR/Meredrop.A.

QuoteJohnHell Just only a correction, AJAX is not combined with Javascript, it's Javascript itself AJAX is the combination of Javascript and XML You are right. I should have better used "encompassed" instead of "combined". BTW, an article I've found along my old bookmarks.

I'm not blaming you at all, it's the author of the article who spreads FUD and most of the posters (not all) are sharing that FUD. Of course flash cookies are a privacy issue but: - you can block flash ads - you can specify on a site basis how much data if any will be stored locally. As far as I can recall you can also edit .sol files (with a specialized editor). As far as the

I'm everything else than a friend of flash. Nevertheless, your link offers more FUD than I'm willing to endure. It seems that all ignorants over the world including the author of that article, have joined that topic.

Quotecork1958 Now, I just came up with this Malwarebytes. Files Infected: C:\Program Files\Kmeleon\SetDefault.exe (Trojan.Downloader) -> Quarantined and deleted successfully. I advised you to scan the package before installation and not after. However it seems you know better. So far no more comments on my side except the below image:

Quotecork1958Instead of trying to accuse me of downloading some messed up file, Don't get me wrong. I'm not accusing you of anything. It was just an advice. For all I care you are free to download any file from any server you can access. Quotecork1958you last 2 posters should try to do this yourself and see what happens. Be sure that both of us like few others as well, did downlo

Quotepanzer False positive? Maybe, maybe not. Quotecork1958This is what I just got doing a complete scan of a fresh install of K-Meleon. Sorry but this is plain nonsense. A fresh install of K-Meleon will always result an emty cache! You have for sure downloaded a zipped file containing the KGN.exe which your AV is flagging as malware. My vague guess, it was a keygen. It was flagged as

Quotepanzer there are some which use KM and FF. I know, it is strange ... Yes, strange indeed to say the least. The main reason I find it so strange is because of the fact that both browsers are using the same engine

QuoteJujuLand It seems that the skin used is Klassic. Perhaps a bug in toolbars.cfg. A+ I'm also on w2k SP4 and also always have used only the Klassic skin with the privacy bar always enabled. Never had any problems and so far I would be surprized if the problem described by Mr Lapin would be caused by a bug in the K-M package.

I can't tell you for sure but it looks like if the code in toolbars.cfg got messed up. Did you edit your toolbars.cfg? In case you did, rename it and replace it with a fresh one. You will have to redownload K-M (the zipped package) in order to extract the new toolbars.cfg.
