Anyone can contribute to the K-Meleon project. Although programmers are welcome, non-programmers can help develop many parts of K-Meleon. If you possess any skills not mentioned here, post in the forums to find a way that you can help.
Programmers
- K-Meleon core: To build K-Meleon, look at the instructions to BuildKMeleon. Developers are needed to port K-Meleon's core to work with a more modern web engine like Goanna from Roytam's Serpent browser or the embeddable Gecko from SeaMonkey.
- Active development: The active branch of K-Meleon is being developed in the forums. The K-Meleon on Goanna forum is the place to submit bug reports, create patches, and develop K-Meleon.
- Kplugins: The modular design of K-Meleon makes it possible to extend the browser through internal Kplugins. All current Kplugins can be built with most C++ compilers. See the KPluginSpecs, KPluginExample, and KPluginsAndGcc pages for details.
Testing
Documentation Writers
- KMeleonWiki: The KMeleonWiki is a community project to build and update documentation for K-Meleon. Anyone can help by fixing typos, correcting language errors, updating information, or translating core pages. If there is a topic where you have the expertise, feel free to share it in the wiki. Many pages for developers and translations need to be updated.
- Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ): The FAQ answers common questions about K-meleon. If you regularly visit the KMeleonForum you'll know what questions are most often asked. Write down an answer and point people to the FAQ the next time it comes up. If your answer runs longer than a few paragraphs, consider creating a new page for it.
- Tutorials: Tutorials are short step-by-step instructions on how to perform common tasks. Feel free to write a guide on any aspect of K-Meleon that you understand. Guide for easy and advanced tasks are both welcome.
Translators
- Website, FAQ, Release Notes, etc: With the KMeleonWiki it is even easier than before to translate the webpages. See the page about Wiki Translations for further instructions.
Artists
- Skins: See the TutorialSkinning page for information about the graphics needed to create a full skin. K-Meleon needs a fresh look. For examples K-Meleon's different possible looks, download skins from the KMeleonThemesWiki page. It needs a NewDefaultSkin?, preferably one that follows Microsoft's guidelines for creating Windows Icons:
- Animated "throbber": AVI, 60k max to be included in official distribution, 100k max to be appreciated. Use the recommended applications from the ThemeTools page.
- Anything else pretty: Any other "K-Meleon inspired" graphics that you want to share? See our Resources section for examples of K-Meleon graphics and contact information for sharing graphics.
