kko, You do not recall that this is a democracy? Not exactly, but not exactly a dictatorship either. I've been around here for a little while and my memory tells me that we are a community where discussion about proposed features has been one of the reasons why we have enjoyed a great reputation over the years.

I would like to talk about an issue I've been thinking about for some time. Which is HOW K-Meleon handles search engines. The old method had one disadvantage. You had to manually update your list of search engines with new entries. But it also enjoyed one nice advantage. By right clicking, you were presented with a list of ALL your search engines (in my case that is now 70 engines) to choose

Enaitz, Yes, I would like to see how your "Patch" works. I took Fred's update and installed it, then manually copied files over on top of my KM 1.0.2 distribution. And it seems to work, although it doesn't say it is the latest version when you click on about k-Meleon. I'm going to rename Fred's distribution to K-Meleon and try to install it again (I've ba

Guenter, Yes, the PC World article seems to have gotten it wrong about whether or not patches were needed for 2.0.2 in FF (along with SM 1.0.8 and 1.1.1). As for the Portable Firefox, I used the update process to get to 2.0.2 and still thought (at the time) that there were bugs not fixed in that release. I like Portable FireFox as my backup browser, but if KM 1.0.2 falls behind in bugfixes, I

Sensai, Sorry? For what? fuggetabout it! We're trying to do manually, what Brian did seemingly effortlessly. His method of creating an executable that would patch all the sub-folders of K-Meleon was the most elegant patching system we've ever enjoyed with this browser. But at least we're trying to do things that need to be done here, in terms of major, critical bug fixes as list

sensai, If you wouldn't mind uploading the browser or if that is inconvenient, then perhaps an updated message here with all the steps. I can be reached at ndebord@isp.com Tks,

This from PC World. Mozilla Issues Fixes for Firefox, SeaMonkey Flaws Fixes made for "critical" JavaScript vulnerability in the Firefox browser and the SeaMonkey application suite. The post goes on to say that even disabling Javascript does not protect your browser and computer. I am now using FF portable.

Guenter, You're right. I much prefer the old search engine design where I can right click on the search engine icon to retrieve any number of search engines, in my case, that is now up to 68 search engines. Thanks to help from others here, I can now use the old method alongside the new "ring" of ten method in KM 1.0.2.

Sensai, Don't celebrate just yet. Those detailed instructions are from Brian's days when we were updating KM 0.9. I couldn't get them to work with SM 1.1.1 (yet), so I'm hoping someone here will help fill in the missing pieces for updating KM 1.0.2 to newer GRE. <sigh>

sensai, Yes, it would be better if there was a better way to do this. I remember Brian's executable patches and wonder if that kind of update process could be resurrected for KM 1.xxxxx Best

Guenter, Before I read your post (and I've not seen my email yet), I tried to use the FAQ from KM 0.9 to copy over files from Seamonkey 1.1 to KM 1.0.2. Failed on my first attempt, but did not have much time to thoroughly check out my process. I went for copying everything that was listed in the FAQ: ===================== The Do It Yourself Way This method assumes the user is fam

I would like to update the official K-Meleon 1.02 version to include the latest bugfixes for Gecko. Would I have to download the latest version of Seamonkey v1.1.1? Or Firefox? And then copy over various files to the correct sub-folder?. Did this once or twice for KM 0.9, but not for this version, so assume the procedure has changed. Any help much appreciated.

Fred, Thanks for the info. I had guessed that the problem was something like this, so didn't worry about it, aside from trying to see if I needed to edit the profile ini file on the off chance that I had done something wrong there. Edit/Manage Profiles is a good enough kludge for me with this release.

Fred, Yes, I saw that profile thing too. Didn't mention it before, but it does seem to invalidate the profile.ini option, which in the past kept KM info strictly inside the program's file folders.

Fred, Until such time as someone updates Early Blue!!! I'll continue to use Klassic, so your suggestions about how to set it up in the Menu work well for me as I'll go with the little icons in the Privacy Bar and disable the big one in View/Toolbars. FYI, this version runs faster than 1.0.2. Very nice!

Fred, Am using it now and it works fine. One question for you. Do I need both the icons and the Privacy Bar icons? Tks,

Rapido, Have not been able to figure out how to get the full "flash" capability working in Kart00. But I'm not unhappy with the version I uploaded to the Wiki. The ability to have complete privacy security using this particular search engine is good enough for me right now and the standard list of "hits" is also good enough. But I have to say, that once I got flash wor

Rapido, It appears as though I don't have flash properly installed, as I am seeing Kart00 resutls as a series of html lists, not flash. Which, for my purposes is a better thing, but still not the way it is supposed to work. I'll have to see why flash is not working completely on my system. I know it works, in part, as I've been able to use the Kill Flash icon on the Privacy

Enaitz, It would be better to have the stickies arranged so that the official version is always on top of the unofficial. Don't know how that would work out in practice.

Peabody, This set of tweaks is from Johnny Sim-Bravenboer and I don't know if he is still around or not or whether he or anyone else has worked on officially porting it over to either KM 1.02 or KM 1.1. Or even if they still work or not. (I don't know much here at all!) As for whether or not they do anything to speed up KM...that is the 64 thousand dollar question. Someone better

Seraphim, Can't say if KM will be 64bit compatible or not. There are problems down the road with the Gecko engine as FF developers have cut off some of the codes required to keep KM backwards compatible with W9x. Hope others who understand this better will jump in here and give a better explanation than I can.

Rapido, Haven't seen the flash version of Kartoo? When I figured out how to add the regular Kartoo to my list of search engines (the old method of right-clicking on whatever search engine you want to use, instead of the menu ring), I wasn't even aware there was a flash version. FWIW, Kartoo is now my default search engine. I just LOVE the privacy protection it provides that you ca

Seraphim, Good question and one I don't have an answer to. I know that you can use your old macros with KM 1.1a, simply by copying them over to the program's profile folder. Don't know about the rest of it yet. The new macro system is not something I'm conversant with and how exactly it works if you want to upgrade it directly with old macro functions.
