Enaitz, I finally solved my windows problems and just got around to loading up KM 1.1alpha. To say that I am confused by the major changes in this version, would be an understatement. Don't get how to edit or manage the new macros at all. We need a faq. This new version requires education, not least with my poor brain.

Guenter, KM 0.8xx was a fine piece of coding. Have yet to play with the new alpha and so have no opinion on the new modular macros, but if it allows you to incorporate all your old macros and reduce overhead at the same time, I'm all for it. As for the community of KM. It seems to wax and wane from time to time. We really do need to find a way to fix older themes and the like to work w

Guenter, Although public money has run out for JAP, it still does have an executable out there for Windows. Since it is from your side of the pond, do you think Jap is a decent enough program to try and use with KM? Tks,

Roger, Right now, my memory cache is 4096k and my disk cache (on a ram drive) is 5120k.

Look in the Wiki Search engines for Kartoo. A fine European Search engine that seems to be more finely focused than American ones. A plus is they do NOT save your searches and do not turn such info over to the government snoops.

Enaitz, I vaguely recall discussions about what was considered optimum for the memory and the disk caches. Someone, I don't know who, said that smaller was better than bigger.

Peabody, Others I am sure will jump in here. KM is a philosophy. The idea that a macro script language is less resource hungry than XUL XPI extensions and more easily changed or written by end users. KM has always had just ONE developer at a time and a community of helpers. All volunteers. The community is an eclectic mix of just end users and those with programming skills of varying natures.

Anyone here have either of these accounts and are unable to get the autocomplete thing working in their address books? I'm at a loss here as I cannot replicate Tom's problem on my online accounts? Any help here... Tks,

Tom, I do not have either of your online email accounts, but when I use my online Yahoo email account and after logging in, click on the compose button, when I type in letters in the TO: box (from whatever I ahve in my address book of course), it automatically fills in missing letters after I insert a beginning letter like T. I see the exact same behavior in FF 1.5.0.8, so wonder what is diff

Tom, Others who are more technically savvy than I, will probably jump in on this question. It sounds like you are using online email. Could you share who you are using? (Gmail, Yahoo?) Tks,

Norse, Ah, didn't realized you were talking about the default builtin stuff in KM. Some of the defaults that GECKO has come up with over the years don't particularly suit my needs, so I am in the habit of loading up external apps, like Cookie Monster and GUL (Bookmarks) and of course, Wackget to do these basic tasks better, or at least I think they do it better. <sigh>

Just want to add that if you make Kartoo your default search engine, the European Union has a a law that MANDATES that they cannot save search info, unlike the United States, where the government has demanded access to search results and has told companies that they have to both keep the info for some years and turn it over to the government if asked for it. Datamining I think is the term for wha

Guenter, I am scared that doing a bugfix update manually, by reading posts here, will not be a good option for most K-Meleon users (myself included!). I really wish we could get something like Brian's update executable available once again for this kind of inbetween fixes where we can sooth our anxieties about bugs and security issues, while awaiting the arrival of a new release (as we ar

Just my two cents worth, but it seems to me that the K-Meleon community has gotten away from one of its strengths. In the past, there was a lot of debate over PROPOSED changes and only after this discussion were said changes implemented.

I only know of two secure search engines that work with K-Meleon: Scroggle and Kartoo (European). Scroogle is already listed. Here is the code for Kartoo: MENUS macros(Kartoo) MACROS Kartoo{ &OldSearch; $search = "Kartoo"; $eng = "http://www.kartoo.com/en/servlet/H?q="; &SetSearch; }

KKO, Is there going to be a FAQ in the Wiki to explain how to use this new method? I'm sure that there will be older style stuff that is not included in the new method which will have to be ported over when someone screams that XYZ is no longer supported. <weak grin>

James, Brian used to do incremental updates, but that was in KM 0.9, not KM 1.0xx. Don't think he has done anything with the new release. Good of you to bring it up, because I agree that having Brian around to do incremental updates on stable releases, like KM 1.02, would reduce the pressure on the current developer (Dorian) to deal with these bug fix issues and allow him to reserve his e

FireFox just put out security fixes for 1.5 and 2.0 engines. We should probably do likewise with KM 1.0.2.

Guenter, I've not yet played with 1.1xx. Shall do so now. Have had computer ills again and just finished reloading W98se, and this time around only official upgrades. Had system corruption in DLLs used by my radio modem (Sony Ericsson GC83 with T-Mobile) EDGE service. Really quite nasty and now I ahve to reload a bunch of stuff. Hopefully all will sort itself out soon.

Guenter, IF the transplanted FF extension provides a seamless backup routine, I'll embrace it in KM too, just like I embraced Aggreg8. There are certain basic and necessary functions that are a pleasure to have built-in with the browser. (I personally think that Wackget is one that deserves a permanent place in KM, but since there are other download managers that work equally well and hav

Guenter, One man's private theme is another man's junk. It is reassuring to know that macros will be much more portable in the near future. And we'll be there to make sure that when the new rolls out they don't forget to upgrade the old, no? <sly grin> The FF extension for backup looks very promising. I use a PKZIP batchfile right now, but I could be persuade

Fred, Now that I undersand the TRICK in how to move folders BEFORE running the browser, it is easy to do what is required to change the location of the browser files. I can't say I like the process, but I understand your reluctance to change how you do things with these special, experimental versions.

Guenter, Well, when you tell it like this, it sounds like a piece of cake! I worry because of past experiences, such as when the changeover in search engine style left me with just 10 engines, instead of my 49 preferred ones! After KKO and others helped me with that, I was able to have the best of both worlds. ALL my old search engines on a right click and the 10 menu thing too. Nice. Yes,

Guenter, Thanks, the FF useragent string did the trick. Somehow, I had lost that string when I changed over to KM 1.0.2 and it did NOT offer that as one of the defaults to choose from. I had in desperation changed over to the IE 6 string and that works most of the time, but when it doesn't, it is very bad indeed. I have now saved your FF 15.0.8 string to a text file and hope not to have
