KKO, I have a very customized setup using menus and macros (cfg). I worry about how to incorporate my custom setup into the new plug and play system. <using KM 1.0.2>

Fred, Would it not be simpler to use an 8.3 naming convention instead. This sounds like a really involved process when it should be much easier, as it used to be. Having to move sub-folders, rename folders, etc., is not an intuitive method for installing software imo.

Fred, <<The subfolders inside the K-Meleon folder have the same names as ever, there should be no longer ones.>> When I installed this version using WinZip, I chose an 8.3 name, "KM-Linux." This is the tree structure that the install program created: C:\Program Files\KM-Linux\K-Meleon-Linux-usable-1.8.1\

Guenter, Deleting the profile folder has caused me problems from time to time, usually related to small changes in pref files and similar. My solution has been to hex edit the registry.dat info so that I can more easily transfer info from one KM install to another. I use MY own 8 letter combo for the SLT and then just edit USER and PREF to reflect the change. When you have a 16 letter/number c

Guenter, <<ndebord, done wwrong - just like me;-) >> Hmmm. When I install this version of KM, it accepts my new name for the top folder,k but underneath it installs a subfolder with a very long filename of Fred's choice. If it were 8.3 naming convention, it would be easier to use.

K-Meleon allows you to set up external download managers (some of which have resume features). One that I like is called Wackget. Look in the Wiki for more information and a few good choices. For Wackget, see below: In Menus.cfg # ----- Document Elements Link{

Guenter, You sure know a lot more than I do about webpage design. As for the password problem, I will just be vigilant and hope that is enough.

Peabody, One thought for you. If you are having trouble with the new crash report DLL, you might want to load up the old one which can be found around here somewhere instead. It produces a crash report in your K-Meleon main folder that you can then cut and paste into a message here.

jsabarese, Look here for Fred's variation on KM 1.0.2 specifically designed for Linux. Not running Linux myself, I don't know how well this one works, but Fred is commited to it, so enjoy. http://kmeleonbrowser.org/forum/read.php?1,68669

Guenter, Well, I worry about the password thing because if it is present on a website that I surf, it is impossible to tell if it is safe or hacked. What I'm not sure about is if the website can be hacked without the site owner's knowledge and thereby little old unsuspecting me wanders in and gets taken like a tourist in the big city by an experienced pickpocket! <shrug>

Fred, Must have done something wrong, because I did rename it prior to a start and still had the LFN thing going on.

Fred, If you do put out a version optimized for Windows, would you consider naming it using 8.3 naming convention? Your current version insists upon a very long file name which is inconvenient for my uses. Tks,

One of the advantages of using a script-based macro system instead of XUL is the ability to actually get your hands dirty inside the various macros that have been developed over time for K-Meleon. As people come and go, some of the macros get abandoned and new ones appear. If enough people want it, old maros get redone and so it goes. Not being a macro writer, I am one of those who ask for help w

g.raviraju, Have not head from anybody here about making K-Meleon work with Windows CE and I've been around for several years. I see that none of the developers have gotten in on this thread yet, so perhaps there is more to say about this than we've seen yet in this thread. An excellent idea, I might add. I sure would like to have KM on my cell phone if it were doable. <g>

kko, Don't know if I can help you here, but this is what I found in RegEdit. KKO>> Can anybody confirm the existance of the key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\ProgramFilesDir NOT exactly. I can follow your key info up to this: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\ At that point I do NOT see \ProgramFilesDir

Peabody>> I think disabling these plugins as the default configuration is the correct approach that would win over new users. Yes, couldn't agree more. There has been some discussion in the past about what should and what should not be enabled in the default. Your idea here should be the norm, not the other way around. Didn't see the session restore bug yet, but will look

Enaitz, Now that you mention it, you're right. The IE thing is broken also. Would never have noticed it myself, as I avoid IE like the plague except for Windows Update. <wry grin>

kko, Yes, no reason to fix it in KM 1.0.2, but I mention it so the KM search macro in 1.1 will be correct out of the box. As for Wackget, or any other of the download maangers, I believe it is just a matter of finding out exactly where in the menus.cfg file the information needs to be put now, as it is definitely different than before.

A couple points. I notice that the Search K-Meleon macro that I have no longer works with the new forum software. In the same vein, I can't seem to get Wackget to work as the macro information refers to sections in menus.cfg that no longer exist. Are there other similar macros that also need to be updated past KM 0.9 to work with KM 1.0xx?

SamG, Glad to hear you were able to edit the password file to your satisfaction. One of the advantages of KM is the abiility to easily edit various configuration files because they are mostly text and can be seen and then edited. <g>

SamG, What do you use to edit various kind of text files? Notepad can be used to edit the password manager file, which should be located either in the program's location or in your window's application folders, depending upon how you installed K-Meleon. Once you locate that file, load it up in notepad and look for the sites you wish to edit or delete. Save and exit notepad and then f
